Natural family portraits in Potters Bar

  • Included in the session: Natural portraits and candid moments of everyone together, from newborns to grandparents, paced for the youngest, then a private online gallery to choose your favourites.
  • Where we photograph in Potters Bar: Your home or garden, or a park or open space such as Oakmere Park or Parkfield. We travel from Northwood, about 12 miles away. Newborn sessions can be photographed at your home, or at the Northwood studio if you prefer.
  • To book: Call 07956 505383, send a WhatsApp message to the same number, or use the enquiry form on this page.

We start with the full group photograph while faces are clean and attention is high, then move to smaller combinations: siblings together, each child with a parent, grandparents with the youngest. The looser, playful frames come last, when nobody minds being a bit muddy.

Your family gallery goes online so you can choose favourites together at home, with no pressure. Images are retouched naturally and supplied for screens and for print, and albums, frames and canvases can be ordered for the walls at home.

What families say

Kaushik Bathia has photographed our family on many occasions and done a fantastic job. His work is displayed all over our family homes and he has captured moments which will be cherished forever. He also managed to get great pictures of my two children (both under 5), a near enough impossible task in itself. We highly recommend!

Google review, 2017

Not the first time we have used his services. Excellent with kids and achieves a perfect smile from them. Fantastic experience. Very pleased.

Google review, 2017

I went into the photoshoot with reservations, as I wasn’t sure how well my youngest child (3 years) would be in a photoshoot situation. As soon as walking into the shoot and seeing how Kaushik interacted with the little ones, I was immediately put at ease. He amazingly kept my child smiling and laughing for an hour, where I can’t seem to manage to do for 30 seconds!

Patience with little ones in Potters Bar

A picture of grandparents with only the grandchildren is well worth requesting, as it so often becomes the print that hangs on the wall. Plenty of warmth and humour keeps a crowd of youngsters cheerful, so the session feels like play rather than a chore.

Once the session ends, Kaushik selects and edits the best frames, then you look through the online gallery before deciding on prints or an album. The order of shots is agreed beforehand: everyone together, the children as a group, each person alone, and finally whoever is running out of patience.

  • Parkfield, opposite Oakmere Park across the High Street, is a more natural open space with a traditional hay meadow and a formal Japanese garden centred on a Japanese maple, and a Roman kiln was found there in the 1950s. 1
  • Potters Bar Museum, provided by the council and run by volunteers from the Potters Bar and District Historical Society, is in the Wyllyotts Centre on Darkes Lane. 2
  • Oakmere Park, once the private grounds of Oakmere House, keeps its classic 19th-century layout of lakes and specimen trees, and together with Parkfield across the High Street covers 17 hectares acquired by the urban district council in the 1930s. 3
  • Oakmere House, built in 1840 and now a Harvester pub-restaurant, is a grade II listed building whose rear faces onto Oakmere Park. 4

Family Photographer in Potters Bar, FAQs

Simply tell us at the earliest opportunity. Little ones get poorly or have grumpy days, and moving the date is always better than photographing a child who is miserable. Together we will pick another day that suits everyone at home.

Yes. Lots of parents book a first-year package that runs from the newborn shoot, through sitting up and first steps, to a first-birthday cake smash. It is a lovely way to capture how quickly your little one grows.

Of course they can. We adore multi-generation sessions, so grandparents are welcome every time. Gathering grandparents, parents and children into one calm, unhurried session shows the connection running right through the family, and these are frequently the images families hold dearest.

Both, at home or outdoors in Potters Bar. Kaushik can help you weigh up which setting would work best for your family.

You will not be kept waiting long at all. After each Potters Bar session we carefully hand-pick and edit your photographs, then send through a private online gallery. From there you can take all the time you like over prints, canvases and albums.

Family guides for Potters Bar

Practical reading from our journal for families planning a session in Potters Bar.

Families in Potters Bar have a well-kept choice on the doorstep. Oakmere Park and Parkfield together cover seventeen hectares on either side of the High Street, and both parks have held the Green Flag Award year after year, which tells you the paths and lawns are looked after. For a family session that matters more than people expect: tidy ground means a toddler can be put down to wander without a parent hovering, and a grandparent can keep up. Oakmere suits the classic group picture, with the lakes and old specimen trees giving depth behind a row of faces. Parkfield is better for the looser frames that follow, running through the edge of the hay meadow or crouched by the Japanese garden. Plan the group shot early, while everyone is fresh and clean, and leave the play for afterwards. Colour coordination is worth a few minutes of thought: the parks read green and gold through most of the year, so one family member in a soft light tone stops everyone merging into the hedges. Newborns are a different matter. It opens Monday to Saturday from 10:30 and on Sunday afternoons, so a feed or a nap can be fitted around the session rather than the other way round.
