We work quietly through the sacred parts and lift the energy for the baraat, reading each moment as it comes rather than pulling you out of it for set-up shots. A second photographer means we can be at the mandap and with the guests at once, so the reactions in the room are held alongside the ritual at the front.

Potters Bar station is on the Great Northern line to London King's Cross, and Junction 24 of the M25 is nearby. For relaxed couple photographs, we like Oakmere Park, with its lake and formal gardens, and Oakmere House, a historic house in the centre of the town gives the day a strong sense of Potters Bar.

The most sacred parts of the day are captured from a respectful distance with a quiet long lens. At a Muslim nikah we photograph the vows, the mehr and the joyful moment the couple are declared married. From the kanyadaan to the saptapadi, or the first laav to the last, the ceremony tells its own story and we follow it.

From the first event to the last, we tell the full story of the celebration. From the turmeric of the haldi to the music of the sangeet, the events set the tone for the wedding. The dhol player sets the pulse of the baraat, and we work close to the drum and the dancers so the picture carries the sound within it.
