What Oshwal Centre allows, and what it does not say

The food and drink rule is absolute. Alcohol, non-vegetarian food, and food containing egg or fish are not permitted on the premises. That covers welcome drinks, toasts, and anything guests or suppliers carry in. Tell your caterer and both families in writing.

Outside catering is welcome, and there are two kitchens. The centre is a registered venue for performing civil marriages, so the legal ceremony can be held here.

Havan or agni. No published rule permitting or forbidding an open flame, and no published conditions. Ask directly, and do not assume it is allowed.
Baraat. Nothing published on procession space, route, dhol or horses.

Photography planning notes for Oshwal Centre

The two large halls are on different floors, so ceremony and reception can both run in the building with no move off site. Ask how long the changeover takes; that decides whether group photographs fit inside it or eat into your reception.
Parking for 500 cars means guests are not circling for a space, so arrivals bunch rather than trickle. Good for greeting pictures, and it makes your start time realistic.
More than 70 acres of grounds, plus the Derasar's landscaped gardens, are possible portrait settings, subject to permission the venue does not publish. Agree access in advance.
Six plasma screens upstairs and three downstairs will be in frame. Decide what is showing during the ceremony and speeches: a live feed, a slideshow and a blank screen all photograph differently.
Three changing rooms means both sides can prepare on site. Ask which room you are given and how much daylight it gets: that is where preparation coverage happens.

The building

The site runs to in excess of 70 acres of Hertfordshire countryside. A traditional Jain Temple, the Derasar, stands on it within its own landscaped gardens, open 10am to 2pm seven days a week. There is a purpose-built children's playground, and the buildings have step-free disabled access and a lift. Both large halls sit under one roof; Oshwal House takes the smaller celebrations.

Getting there and parking

For satnav: Coopers Lane Road, Northaw, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire EN6 4DG. Nearest rail is Potters Bar, nearest Underground is Cockfosters on the Piccadilly line, and the venue describes both as a short taxi journey. By bus, the 298 runs from Cockfosters, or the 84 to Potters Bar bus station, leaving a walk of 22 to 35 minutes. There is on-site parking for 500 cars. Northaw is a village, so guests coming by train should book a taxi in advance.
