Kadwa Patidar Centre on Kenmore Avenue is dry hire only. The venue's FAQ says you are free to choose your own decorator and caterer, and it can pass on names of trusted suppliers. Alcohol is allowed as long as it is not sold, and non-vegetarian food is allowed. Hire charges are not published: the centre takes enquiries by phone.

These three Gujarati community centres sit within a few miles of one another, and what each one publishes differs a great deal. Kadwa Patidar sets out its food, drink and hire rules in an FAQ; Sattavis publishes parking and dry hire in its own blog posts; the Oshwal Centre's own page gives capacities and little else. Where a venue does not state something on its own pages, this table says so rather than filling the gap.

What Kadwa Patidar Centre publishes about hire and deposits

The centre does not publish hire charges; its homepage directs enquiries to the phone. What it does publish shapes the budget:

Minimum hire: 6 hours on weekdays and 10 hours at weekends.
Deposit: £500 to £1,000, depending on the hours booked, refunded within two weeks of the event barring damage.
Cancellation: a 14-day cooling-off period, after which the deposit is forfeited; at least six months' written notice is needed to cancel, or the hirer is liable for the full hire unless the date is re-let.
Overruns: charged according to their length and any following booking.
Dry hire: catering and decor are separate costs with your own suppliers.

None of these terms carries a date, and the full terms the FAQ refers to are not online, so confirm them when you book.

Dry hire, alcohol not for sale, and same-day registration

Dry hire means your own caterer and your own decorator, and the hirer clears rubbish and tables and bags plates and cutlery to the centre's recycling instructions before leaving.

Alcohol is allowed, but not for sale, because of licensing regulations.
Non-vegetarian food is allowed.
Hours: available from 6am depending on hours booked, and vacated by midnight at the latest.
Registration: the facilities page says authorised persons on site can register a religious wedding, but only when the religious ceremony is held at the hall the same day.

That registration facility is not a civil ceremony licence, and no civil licence is published, so settle that before booking a registrar for a civil ceremony. Nothing is published on mandaps, size limits, open flame for a havan or agni, baraat space, dhol or fireworks. Ask the venue and get each answer in writing.

A bridal suite and a room for the groom's side

The facilities page lists a Bridal Suite of 6m x 3m with large mirrors, air conditioning, and natural and spot lighting. The FAQ says whole-venue dry hire includes the bridal room and one other room, normally used by the groom's side, so both preparations can be photographed on site.

Midnight ends the day. Clear-up happens before midnight too, so the last dance and final portraits sit well before it. Build the running order backwards and tell us where coverage stops.
A small bridal room. At 6m x 3m, agree who is in it and when.
Main Hall 26m x 26m with a 12m stage. A square room that size needs its lighting planned.
No outdoor space is listed with the hall, so plan groups and couple portraits indoors unless the venue says otherwise.

Besides the halls, the facilities page lists a Prayer Room of 10m x 6m, a Social Room of 11m x 9m, and a kitchen of 9m x 8m with five gas burners, a hot plate and a walk-in cooler. Furniture listed is 400 chairs for the main hall, 200 for the annex, 45 round and 25 rectangular tables, so a 450-guest layout may need extra chairs.

Kenmore Avenue, Kenton, Harrow, Middlesex HA3 8LU. Harrow and Wealdstone, Kenton and Harrow-on-the-Hill stations are all within about a mile in a straight line. We travel to Kenton from our studio in Northwood.

Two car parks and the school overflow

The venue's two pages give slightly different figures. The facilities page says up to 135 cars across two car parks, plus school parking for up to 5 cars at an extra charge, subject to availability. The FAQ says about 130 cars between two car parks are included in dry hire, and that the school car park (80 spaces) is available for 10-hour bookings, subject to availability. Ask which applies to your date before briefing guests.

The centre does not publish its hire charges; it asks for enquiries by phone. What it does publish is a minimum hire of six hours on weekdays and ten hours at weekends, and a refundable deposit of £500 to £1,000 depending on the hours booked, returned within two weeks of the event if there is no damage. Ask which applies to your date and brief guests early. For guests arriving by train, Harrow and Wealdstone and Kenton stations are both close to Kenmore Avenue.
