Berkhamsted is a pretty Chilterns market town on the Grand Union Canal, known for its historic high street and canal side setting. Berkhamsted station is on the West Coast Main Line to London Euston, and the Grand Union Canal runs through the town. For relaxed couple photographs, we like Ashridge Estate and Berkhamsted Common, woodland and open commons, and Berkhamsted Castle, the ruined Norman motte and bailey castle gives the day a strong sense of Berkhamsted.

The kanyadaan, when a father places his daughter's hand in her husband's, is quiet and full of feeling, and we frame it without ever intruding. The blessings of parents and elders draw many ceremonies to a close, hands resting on heads in benediction, and we hold those tender moments gently. The joining of hands, the knotting of the couple's garments and their first shared steps carry a marriage forward, and we document each stage as it comes.

When the reception loosens and the dance floor takes over, the bhangra runs late and joyful, and we stay for every last turn under the lights. The mehndi or henna night is intimate and detailed, and we photograph both the henna and the laughter around it. For Gujarati families the garba and the raas fill the evening with colour and movement, and we love photographing them.
