A suite with its own kitchen, and what that lets you do

What Shendish Manor publishes:

  • Licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships, indoors and outdoors.
  • A licensed garden gazebo for outdoor ceremonies.
  • The Apsley Suite may be hired on a venue-hire-only basis and has its own kitchen space for those wishing to use their own caterer.

What it does not publish: whether a mandap may be erected, whether an open-flame havan is permitted, and whether a baraat may process on the drive. None of those is addressed in the venue's own material, so confirm each one in writing before you plan around it.

An 1853 manor, 160 acres and a licensed gazebo

The Apsley Suite is the room that makes a large Asian wedding work here, and its own kitchen is the reason: your caterer is on site rather than running a satellite operation.

The gazebo is a separate walk from the house, so an outdoor ceremony means a move. Build it into the running order.

160 acres gives real distance between the house, the gardens and the golf course. Portrait time is travel time here; twenty minutes buys more than it would at a single-building venue.

The Dutch Gardens and the parkland give a formal and an informal option within a short walk, so a portrait slot does not need a vehicle. On a 160-acre site that is worth confirming when you visit: not every estate offers it.

The Manor House, the Apsley Suite and the Dutch Gardens

The Manor House dates from 1853 and sits in 160 acres of parkland and formal gardens, including the Dutch Gardens. The venue does not publish a listing grade for it and we have not asserted one.

The contemporary Apsley Suite is the working room for a large Asian wedding, and it is a different proposition from the Manor House: bigger, plainer, and with its own kitchen. Most couples use the Manor House for the ceremony or a smaller daytime sitting and the Apsley Suite for the reception.

There are 70 bedrooms available at group rates, which is the practical difference between a one-day wedding and a celebration where family arrive the night before and stay after.

What is the capacity at Shendish Manor?

The Apsley Suite takes 50 to 320 daytime guests. The Manor House takes 15 to 96 during the day and up to 160 for an evening reception, though a third-party listing gives 94 rather than 96 for the day, so confirm the figure for your date.
