Kaushik photographed out wedding on september last year. He was so professional and was great with everyone making them laugh before taking all the snaps. We really couldn't have asked for more he worked hard all day to get the best pictures. We are very pleased with all the pictures and love the photo album. We will differently be using you again in the future Thank you!

…Kaushik is incredibly talented, artistic, and truly gifted with a photographer’s vision. He knows exactly what he wants each frame to look like and how to get the best out of his subjects. Honestly, there were moments during the shoot when I’d wonder, “What is he making me do?” – but when I saw the final shots, I was blown away. Every image looked beautiful, intentional, and natural.

Two towns, two moods

Regency Cheltenham and cathedral Gloucester

Cheltenham grew as a spa after mineral springs were found in 1716, and George III's visit in 1788 sealed its fashionable reputation. Today it is a borough of about 119,000 people next to the Cotswolds, and it claims to be the most complete Regency town in Britain. For a wedding, that means cream terraces, formal gardens and a calendar of festivals.

Gloucester, about seven miles further from Northwood, has a different texture. Its cathedral began as St Peter's Abbey in 679, and its docks, linked to the Severn Estuary by a canal opened in 1827, keep fourteen listed Victorian warehouses. A Gloucester wedding tends to mix medieval stone with industrial brick, which gives a wider range of backdrops in a short distance.

Register offices

St Georges Road in Cheltenham and Shire Hall in Gloucester

Gloucestershire County Council's registration service runs offices in both towns. Cheltenham Register Office is on the first floor of its building on St Georges Road. Gloucester Registration Office is in Shire Hall on Westgate Street, where the Westgate Room takes up to 60 people in total: the couple, no more than 56 guests and two registration officers.

That Gloucester limit is worth noting if your family is large, as the photographer will need a place too, so check with the office how they count it. Both offices can explain the notice process and what photography is allowed during the ceremony. We follow their guidance and plan portraits in a nearby park or garden afterwards.

Pittville, Montpellier and Imperial Gardens for Cheltenham wedding portraits

The Gloucestershire Registration Service itself points couples to Pittville Park for photographs, with an ornamental bridge at each end of the lake beside the Grade I listed Pump Room of 1830 and its Ionic colonnade. The park is split by Evesham Road, with a larger lower lake on the western side, and holds a Green Flag award.

Closer to the centre, Montpellier Gardens are part of the town's Regency landscape, with a small arboretum of unusual trees in the north-western corner. Imperial Gardens sit in a Regency square just off the Promenade, behind the town hall. Sandford Park has cascade pools and the River Chelt running through it. All of these suit a short stop between ceremony and reception.

Gloucester portraits

Cathedral cloisters, the docks and Gloucester's green spaces

Gloucester Cathedral's cloisters, built between 1351 and 1377, have the earliest surviving fan vaults in England, and the cathedral stood in for Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. For photographs in the cathedral grounds or cloisters, ask the cathedral directly about access and permissions well ahead of the day.

The docks give a very different look, with Victorian warehouses and water. For green space, Gloucester Park is an 11-hectare park near the centre with a bandstand, flower beds, mature trees and statues of Robert Raikes and Queen Anne. Hillfield Gardens in Kingsholm, laid out in 1867, has mature specimen trees and three historic monuments, and Barnwood Park has an arboretum reached by a footbridge.

Venue styles

Priories, grain barns, manor hotels and estate marquees

Gloucestershire's licensed venues range widely. Near Gloucester you will find historic religious buildings by the docks, converted farm barns with courtyards, Georgian country house hotels with bedrooms on site, and family estates that hold receptions in purpose-built marquees.

Around Cheltenham, the choice runs from manor house hotels with gardens for outdoor ceremonies to exclusive-use lakeside houses, woodland estates in the Cotswold edge and townhouse hotels in Pittville. Each setting asks for different timings, and we plan the light and the portrait route with you before the day.

Dates and distance

Festival weeks, the drive from Northwood and planning your Gloucestershire date

Cheltenham has a busy calendar. The Cheltenham Festival is held each March at the racecourse, with the Gold Cup steeplechase, and the town also hosts annual literature, jazz, science and music festivals. If your date falls in one of those weeks, it is worth checking hotel availability for guests early.

From Northwood, Cheltenham is about 74 miles and Gloucester about 81, so a typical wedding is covered as a long day. For preparations that start early in the morning, a night nearby beforehand may be sensible, and if so it is set out in your written quote. The journey from Northwood to Cheltenham or Gloucester is costed for your venue and set out in writing before you book.

Planning

Planning around Gloucestershire

01

Count the Westgate Room carefully

Gloucester's Westgate Room holds 60 in total, including the couple and two registration officers, so no more than 56 guests.

02

Check the festival calendar

March brings the Cheltenham Festival, and the town hosts literature, jazz, science and music festivals too. Book guest rooms early in those weeks.

03

Use the registry's suggestion

Gloucestershire's registration service suggests Pittville Park for photographs, with an ornamental bridge at each end of the lake beside the Pump Room.

04

Ask the cathedral early

If you want portraits at Gloucester Cathedral's fan-vaulted cloisters, ask the cathedral about access, timings and permissions well in advance of the day.

Good to know

Weddings in Gloucestershire: questions answered

Cheltenham is about 74 miles from the Northwood studio and Gloucester about 81. Most weddings there are covered as a long day, and the travel from Northwood is quoted in writing, with any overnight stay shown as a separate line.

Cheltenham Register Office is on the first floor of its building on St Georges Road, run by Gloucestershire County Council's registration service. Gloucester's office is in Shire Hall on Westgate Street, where the Westgate Room holds ceremonies.

The Westgate Room at Shire Hall takes up to 60 people in total, meaning the couple, no more than 56 guests and two registration officers. Check with the office how they count a photographer, and plan the larger family groups outside afterwards.

Pittville Park, with its lake bridges beside the Pump Room, is suggested by the registration service itself. Montpellier Gardens, Imperial Gardens off the Promenade and Sandford Park with its cascade pools are also close to the centre.

For Gloucestershire, packages begin from £750. Each package is shaped around your day, and optional extras include a second photographer, an engagement shoot and a hand-finished album. Travel from Northwood is listed separately in the quote.

Not necessarily, but plan ahead. The Festival is held each March at the racecourse, and the town is busy. If your date falls then, check guest accommodation and venue access early, and allow extra time on the roads around the racecourse.

Yes. Barns and estate marquees around Gloucester give soft, natural light by day. We plan the ceremony positions, the group photographs and the evening timings with you before the day, so the speeches and first dance are covered wherever the venue puts them.
