Would 100% recommend Kaushik Bathia Photography! Kaushik and his team photographed all my wedding functions and I couldn't be happier with the results. He listened to us, got to know our family and close one's and captured all the special moments. We had a great mixture of romantic portraits and natural candid photos of the ceremony. Thank you so much for the most beautiful, treasured wedding photos!

Roshni R., Google review, 2022

We were delighted with Kaushik being our wedding photographer. He was organised and professional and kept everything stress free. He took some great photos and produced a memorable wedding album. Highly recommended.

Mehil P., Google review, 2014

Thank you for capturing our special day so well and creating beautiful photos that we will treasure forever. We love our stunning wedding album! You took the time to get to know us from the pre-shoot right up until the wedding day and made us feel comfortable and relaxed, and we had a lot of fun along the way especially with your silly little jokes to get us to laugh!

Why Gloucestershire

Space and setting beside the Cotswolds for a large Asian wedding

Cheltenham sits right next to the Cotswolds, and the land around it and Gloucester holds manor houses, estates and hotels with grounds big enough for several hundred guests. For families who want a country setting for an Asian wedding, Gloucestershire offers it within about 74 to 81 miles of our Northwood studio.

It also gives two quite different towns for the events around the main day: Regency Cheltenham with its formal gardens and the Promenade, and Gloucester with its cathedral and Victorian docks. A mehndi or sangeet in one and the wedding in the other is easy to arrange, and the two towns give the photographs a real change of scene between days.

Capacity

Gloucestershire venues that hold several hundred guests

Licensed venues across Gloucestershire run from intimate rooms for under 100 to suites north of Gloucester that take ceremonies of several hundred, with Regency halls in Cheltenham and exclusive-use manors in between. Walled gardens and pavilions near both towns can host an outdoor ceremony in good weather.

Before booking, ask each venue for its seated capacity with a stage and dance floor in place, whether outside Asian caterers are allowed, and where a mandap or stage can stand. Those answers shape the photography: where the light falls, where families gather for groups and how the entrance can be seen.

A weekend plan

Mehndi on Friday, ceremony on Saturday, reception on Sunday

An Asian wedding often runs over a long weekend. In Gloucestershire, Kaushik can cover a Friday mehndi, a Saturday ceremony and a Sunday reception as one trip, rather than three return journeys from Northwood. At 74 to 81 miles, a stay between consecutive days is usually sensible, and it is set out in your written quote.

Send each event with its date, timings and postcode, and we will set out a day-by-day plan. Travel from Northwood and any overnight stays are listed as separate lines in your written quote. If you prefer to spread events across two weekends, we can show the cost of both options side by side.

The legal part

Civil registration in Cheltenham or at Gloucester's Shire Hall

If your religious ceremony is at a place not licensed for marriage, the legal ceremony happens separately. Gloucestershire County Council runs register offices on St Georges Road in Cheltenham and at Shire Hall on Westgate Street in Gloucester, where the Westgate Room holds the couple, up to 56 guests and two registration officers.

A small civil ceremony a few days before the main wedding gives close family a quieter moment together. We can photograph it as part of the package, with portraits afterwards in Gloucester Park or among the warehouses at Gloucester Docks.

Etiquette

Photographing Hindu, Sikh and Muslim ceremonies with respect

For Hindu ceremonies, Kaushik agrees with the pandit where to stand for the jaimala, kanyadaan and pheras. For an anand karaj, the laavan are photographed from a position agreed with the gurdwara, and a nikah is covered modestly and quietly, with a pause during prayers. Each place of worship may set its own rules, and we follow them.

Our national pages describe how each tradition is photographed, from preparation to the farewell: Hindu weddings, Sikh weddings and Muslim weddings. For the local view, read Asian weddings in Gloucester, Hindu weddings in Cheltenham and Muslim weddings in Cheltenham.

Pre-wedding shoot

Pre-wedding portraits at Gloucester Docks and Cheltenham's gardens

A pre-wedding shoot helps you relax in front of the camera before the main days. Gloucester Docks, with fourteen listed Victorian warehouses, suits a modern look. Cheltenham's Imperial Gardens off the Promenade and Montpellier Gardens with its small arboretum suit a softer, Regency feel. Pittville Park's lake bridges beside the Pump Room work in any outfit.

If a Gloucestershire shoot is not convenient, we can photograph you at the Northwood studio instead, and you can use the results on invitations or a welcome board. For civil and church weddings, see the Gloucestershire wedding guide, which covers the county's register offices, venues and festival calendar.

Planning

Planning around Gloucestershire

01

Group the events

A Friday to Sunday wedding in Gloucestershire works as one trip from Northwood. Spreading events over two weekends means two journeys, which costs more.

02

Ask for real capacity

Check seated capacity with a stage and dance floor in place, not just the headline figure, at Gloucestershire manors, hotels and estates.

03

Plan the outdoor ceremony

Walled gardens and pavilions suit outdoor rituals. Ask the venue for the indoor fallback, and tell us so we can plan the light.

04

Check catering rules

If you want your own Asian caterer, confirm the venue allows outside catering, and on what terms, before you sign the contract.
