Mehndi, nikah, walima, sangeet, pheras or anand karaj: give each one an address and a start time, so each can be quoted on its own line.

Nikah, walima, mehndi, Hindu pheras and Sikh anand karaj across Manchester, Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale and the other boroughs. Kaushik travels about 145 to 164 miles from Northwood, and each day of a multi-day wedding is planned and quoted separately.
The short answer
Kaushik Bathia photographs Asian weddings in Oldham and the rest of Greater Manchester, including Muslim, Hindu and Sikh ceremonies and multi-day celebrations. He is based in Northwood, about 152 miles from Oldham, so each day's travel and any overnight stay are quoted in writing before you book. Wedding photography starts from £750, with packages built around the events you want covered.
We hired Kaushik for our wedding. He was a fantastic photographer, very professional and great to work with. Kaushik was very flexible with timings, he was patient, and produced amazing photos! We received our photos really quickly and the quality of them are really nice!! His communication throughout was really good and understood what I wanted. My family were also very happy with Kaushik and the photos.
Would 100% recommend Kaushik Bathia Photography! Kaushik and his team photographed all my wedding functions and I couldn't be happier with the results. He listened to us, got to know our family and close one's and captured all the special moments. We had a great mixture of romantic portraits and natural candid photos of the ceremony. Thank you so much for the most beautiful, treasured wedding photos!

Who the county's weddings are for
Greater Manchester has some of the largest South Asian communities in England, and the mix differs by borough. At the 2021 census, 20.9% of the City of Manchester's residents were of Asian heritage, including 11.9% Pakistani, 2.7% Indian and 1.8% Bangladeshi. In Bolton the same census found 20.1% of the town's residents identified as Asian.
Oldham stands out. The town has a high proportion of people with roots in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and at the 2011 census 37.6 per cent of its residents were Asian. That shapes the wedding calendar there: Muslim weddings with a nikah, mehndi and walima are a large part of it, alongside Hindu and Sikh families across the wider county.
We write this page for all of those families. The rituals change from one tradition to the next, but the planning questions are the same: how many days, which addresses, how many guests, and what matters most to photograph.

Oldham
Oldham is a Pennine town about 7 miles north-east of Manchester, once the most productive cotton-spinning town in the world. Its register office is at Chadderton Town Hall on Middleton Road, which is useful for couples who hold the civil ceremony separately from the religious one. The Edwardian building has a grand stone staircase that works well for family photographs.
Banqueting rooms around the town and in the Saddleworth hills take receptions from around 20 guests to a few hundred, and at least one Oldham hotel says it welcomes cultural and religious wedding traditions. For a walima with a long guest list, ask early about where the stage sits and where the couple's entrance will start.
Alexandra Park, built by the people of Oldham during the cotton famine, and Daisy Nook Country Park on the Tameside border both give a quiet half hour for couple portraits. Read our Asian wedding photographer in Oldham guide for more.
Nikah, walima and mehndi
A Muslim wedding in Greater Manchester might begin with a mehndi at home or in a hall, move to a nikah at a mosque or the family home, and finish with a walima on the same day or a later weekend. Kaushik photographs each part with care: quiet and still during prayers and the nikah itself, and fuller coverage once the family is ready for portraits and the reception.
The south Manchester stretch of Wilmslow Road through Rusholme, known as the Curry Mile, is thought to have the largest concentration of South Asian restaurants in the UK. In Stockport, the council offers a multicultural wedding package at the Town Hall, where the Ballroom seats up to 450 with a private room for the couple and kitchen hire included.
Our Muslim wedding photographer in Manchester page goes into the nikah and walima in more detail, and the national Muslim weddings guide explains how coverage is shaped around each family's wishes.

Hindu and Sikh weddings
Hindu weddings in the county follow the same rhythm as anywhere: a haldi or pithi at home, a sangeet or garba night, then the baraat, jaimala, pheras under the mandap and the vidaai. Each ritual has its own moment to catch, and Kaushik keeps clear of the priest while staying close enough for the exchange of garlands and the steps around the fire. See the national Hindu weddings guide.
For a Sikh wedding, the morning is usually at the gurdwara, with the milni outside and the anand karaj inside. Shoes come off, heads are covered, and photography during the laavan is done from a respectful position agreed with the granthi or committee beforehand. Our Sikh weddings page covers gurdwara etiquette.
Tell us your mandir or gurdwara and any photography guidance it gives, along with the address, and we plan the morning around it.
Three or four days, one quote
A multi-day Asian wedding in Greater Manchester is planned day by day. We ask for each event's date, address, start time and expected guest numbers, then send a written quote with the coverage and the travel for each day shown separately. Where events run on consecutive days, an overnight stay is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote.
Large receptions need their own plan. A walima or reception for 400 or more guests works best when the stage photographs are written down as a numbered list and timed against the speeches. A second photographer helps on these days, covering the other family's preparations or the guests while Kaushik stays with the couple.
For the civil side, Manchester's register office in Heron House on Lloyd Street and Bolton's Queen Elizabeth II Room at the Town Hall both suit a small legal ceremony ahead of the main celebration.

Planning
Mehndi, nikah, walima, sangeet, pheras or anand karaj: give each one an address and a start time, so each can be quoted on its own line.
For a walima or reception of several hundred, find out where the stage sits and how the couple's entrance will run, so lighting and positions are ready.
Tell us your mosque, mandir or gurdwara and any photography guidance it gives, and we plan the ceremony coverage around it.
The Oldham and Rochdale Metrolink line reaches Rochdale town centre, which helps guests move between events in the two towns without cars.
Community figures, register offices and public spaces from Oldham to Wigan. They help you plan where each part of the wedding will happen.

Town by town
These Greater Manchester towns each have their own Asian, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim wedding guides. Distances are from the Northwood studio.
Good to know
Yes. Kaushik covers nikah ceremonies at home or at a mosque, mehndi evenings and walima receptions in Oldham and nearby, staying discreet during prayers and following the imam's guidance. Oldham is about 152 miles from Northwood, so the travel and any overnight stay are set out in writing for each day before you book.
Yes. Oldham's register office is at Chadderton Town Hall on Middleton Road, and Oldham Council also runs the building as a wedding venue, with ceremonies in the Oak Room for up to 100 guests and a grand stone staircase for photographs. It suits a short legal ceremony a few weeks before the nikah or walima.
Stockport Council offers a multicultural wedding package in which the Town Hall Ballroom seats up to 450, with a private room for the couple and kitchen hire included. Stockport is the nearest Greater Manchester town to the studio, about 145 miles, and the coverage and travel are quoted in writing before you book.
Each event gets its own line with its hours. Oldham is about 152 miles from Northwood, Rochdale about 157 and Bolton about 161, so travel is costed per day, and between consecutive days an overnight stay is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote.
Yes. At the 2021 census about one in five Bolton residents identified as Asian. For a Sikh wedding, tell us the gurdwara and any guidance from the committee about the laavan; for a Hindu wedding, the mandap position and the order of the pheras. Our Bolton Asian wedding guide covers the town in more detail.
Alexandra Park in Oldham was built by local people during the cotton famine and has woodland walks at its south-eastern end. Daisy Nook Country Park has a lake, canal and viaduct, and Healey Dell near Rochdale has waterfalls on the River Spodden. Read the Rochdale Asian wedding guide for that end of the county.
At that size it usually helps. A second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time on the morning, then the guest tables while Kaushik stays at the stage. Both are listed in the written quote, with the travel from Northwood, so you can decide before you book.
Plan your wedding
Send the dates and addresses for each event. Kaushik will reply with availability and a written quote that lists each day, its coverage and the travel from Northwood.
