Thank you for capturing our special day so well and creating beautiful photos that we will treasure forever. We love our stunning wedding album! You took the time to get to know us from the pre-shoot right up until the wedding day and made us feel comfortable and relaxed, and we had a lot of fun along the way especially with your silly little jokes to get us to laugh!

Excellent photography services before and during our wedding. Really enjoyed him being our photographer and he did a great job with the pictures. Working with him on the albums post wedding has been fantastic, he takes time to understand our ideas and portrays them in his work. Brilliant personality and very professional.

Rochdale and the Roch valley

A walima in Rochdale's Grade I town hall, or a smaller civil ceremony by the river

Rochdale sits in the valley of the River Roch, about 10 miles north-east of Manchester and 157 miles from Northwood. Rochdale Town Hall, the Grade I listed Gothic Revival building inaugurated in 1871, is approved for ceremonies and celebrations, and after restoration it offers the Great Hall for 100 to 250 guests, the Bright Hall for 60 to 120 and the Exchange for 40 to 80.

For a short legal ceremony, Rochdale Register Office is on the ground floor of the council's Riverside building, with its own entrance beside the River Roch, and holds civil ceremonies in its Red Rose Suite. It can sit on a weekday before the nikah, with a few family photographs outside afterwards.

The Oldham and Rochdale Metrolink line runs through both town centres, which helps guests move between a nikah in one town and a walima in the other. Our Rochdale Muslim wedding page has more local detail.

Respect in the room

Prayers, modesty and what the family chooses to keep private

A Muslim wedding is photographed around the family's wishes, not around a fixed list. Before the day we go through each event and agree which moments you want photographed, which you would prefer to keep private and whether any guests have asked not to appear. Kaushik puts the camera down when salah begins and waits until prayers have finished before moving again.

Modest coverage means different things to different families. Some want full portraits of the couple and the immediate family, others want only detail photographs from the mehndi or the walima stage. Tell us what suits your family, and Kaushik works to it throughout the day.

Our national Muslim weddings page explains the order of the mangni, mehndi, dholki, nikah, walima and rukhsati in more detail.

Oldham

A nikah in Oldham, with guests arriving on the Metrolink

Oldham is about 152 miles from Northwood, and the Oldham and Rochdale Metrolink line runs through its town centre. The nikah can take place at the family home or at a mosque, with the imam, two witnesses and close family present. Kaushik keeps to the edge of the room during the ijab-e-qubool and the signing of the nikah-nama. Wide photographs show who is there, and closer frames follow once the dua has finished and the family is ready.

Oldham Mumps, the permanent tram stop that opened on 27 January 2014, is also a bus interchange, so relatives without cars can reach a nikah in the town and travel on to a walima in Rochdale or the city. If the nikah is at a mosque, tell us its name and any photography guidance from the committee, and we plan around it.

For the civil marriage, Bolton Register Office is at Albert Halls on Victoria Square and Bury Register Office is at Bury Town Hall on Knowsley Street, so the legal ceremony can sit in a neighbouring borough on a weekday before the nikah.

The city

A Manchester nikah: start with our city page

If your wedding is in the city itself, read our Muslim wedding photographer in Manchester page first. It covers the nikah, mehndi and walima in more depth for city families, including the city's register office and portrait spots near the centre.

Manchester's register office is in Heron House on Lloyd Street, opposite the Town Hall on Albert Square, and it suits a small civil marriage before or after the nikah. Manchester Town Hall itself is closed for refurbishment and scheduled to reopen in spring 2027, so check its status before planning photographs on Albert Square.

For guests coming by train, Manchester Piccadilly has step-free access to all platforms, which helps elderly relatives travelling from further afield.

Away from the stage

Couple portraits in Broadfield Park, Springfield Park and Queens Park

A walima can leave little time for the couple alone, so a short portrait session earlier in the day is worth planning. In Rochdale town centre, Broadfield Park is the borough's oldest park, a Green Flag Award winner with a Victorian-style bandstand, views over the town and a statue of John Bright MP. Springfield Park on Bolton Road in Marland, the borough's largest, has wooded slopes down to the Roch Valley and a lake.

In Bolton, Queens Park off Chorley New Road is a large Victorian town park with a nature trail and a new café. In Bury, Clarence Park on Walmersley Road opened in 1888, with a bandstand, a lido lake for model boats and Chesham Woods alongside.

If the family prefers portraits to stay indoors, a quiet corner of the hall works just as well.

Cost and travel

Pricing a nikah and walima 150 miles from Northwood

Coverage for a nikah and walima across these boroughs starts from £750. Packages are built around your day, so a nikah at home, a mehndi night and a walima for several hundred guests are each quoted on their own line, with an optional second photographer, pre-wedding shoot or album listed separately.

Travel from Northwood to Oldham, Rochdale or the city is quoted up front in writing before you book. When the mehndi and walima fall on consecutive days, an overnight stay is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote. Rochdale station on Station Road has step-free access to all platforms, which helps older relatives arriving by train.

Planning

Planning around Greater Manchester

01

Tell us the mosque's guidance

If the nikah is at a mosque in Oldham or Rochdale, ask the committee about photography and send us their answer before the day.

02

Write down what stays private

List any moments, rooms or guests you would rather not have photographed. Kaushik keeps to that list throughout the nikah and walima.

03

Use the Metrolink between towns

The Oldham and Rochdale line links both town centres, so guests can travel between a nikah in one and a walima in the other without parking twice.

04

Check the Rochdale hall size

Rochdale Town Hall's Great Hall takes 100 to 250 guests. Confirm your walima numbers against the room before you send us the timetable.

05

Register in Bolton or Bury

Bolton Register Office is at Albert Halls on Victoria Square and Bury's is at the Town Hall on Knowsley Street, either suited to a weekday civil ceremony before the nikah.
