Start with the floor plan of your hall

Ahead of everything else, send us a floor plan. How many rows deep the seating goes, whether a wall backs the top table or open room surrounds it, whether the hall divides partway down: those three answers already rule out half the lens choices and most places worth standing. Leave it until the morning and you get a photographer shooting from wherever a gap happens to be, and a gap is not a viewpoint.

The ceremony, vow by vow

Compact, seated and quick describes it, which inverts what wedding coverage normally assumes. Nobody processes towards a camera. The entire thing resolves into three or four fixed positions, and picking those badly cannot be repaired by moving afterwards, because walking about mid-ceremony is something we refuse to do. Either side of that centre the day loosens: mehndi on an earlier evening is hands, colour and noise, while rukhsati at the close asks a photographer to stand behind a family, never ahead.

So the positions get picked in an empty room. One sits low and square to the table where the paperwork is signed, because a signature shot from above is a hand and a biro. Another sits far enough back to hold the imam and both of you inside one frame. Coverage pauses where you have told us it pauses, and resumes at the dua, with nobody obliged to gesture at us.
