Georgian Room for the signing
At Luton Register Office the Georgian Room, for up to 20 guests, permits photography, while the Thursday 10am statutory room does not. Book the Georgian Room if you want the signing recorded.

Muslim weddings in Bedfordshire photographed from the signing at Luton Register Office to the walima, with Luton about 20 miles up the M1 from the Northwood studio. Coverage starts from £750.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia, photographing weddings since 2001, covers the nikah, mehndi, rukhsati and walima across Bedfordshire. Luton, where the 2021 census counted 41,143 Pakistani and 20,630 Bangladeshi residents, is about 20 miles from the Northwood studio, and Bedford about 37. Photography follows the imam's guidance and your family's wishes. Coverage starts from £750, and travel from Northwood is set out in writing before you book.
…Kaushik's work is fantastic and he took so much stress out of our special day. He and his team are highly professional, fun and friendly and work with you to capture the shots that you want. He captured some amazing moments of both us and our guests, some natural, some posed but all truly wonderful. We were blown away by our albums and videos and have no hesitation in recommending him to our family and friends.
Kaushik photographed out wedding on september last year. He was so professional and was great with everyone making them laugh before taking all the snaps. We really couldn't have asked for more he worked hard all day to get the best pictures. We are very pleased with all the pictures and love the photo album. We will differently be using you again in the future Thank you!
I hired Kaushik for our wedding and I’m extremely glad I did!! Kaushik took amazing pictures and the quality of the pictures were amazing. Kaushik was very patient and was very helpful since the start. My family including our guest were constantly asking me who the photographer was as he gave the best service.
Luton Register Office
If you want the civil marriage registered in Luton, the room you book decides what can be photographed. Luton Register Office holds ceremonies for up to 20 guests in its Georgian Room, and photography is permitted there. Its statutory ceremonies, for the couple and two witnesses, take place on Thursdays at 10am in a different room where photography is not allowed. For pictures of the signing itself, the Georgian Room is the one to ask for.
The civil ceremony can sit on its own day, before or after the nikah, or on the same morning. If it falls on a Thursday in the statutory room, we photograph the two of you and your witnesses outside the building and on a short walk afterwards, so the day still has a record. Luton has been a unitary authority since 1997, which is why the town keeps a register office separate from the rest of the county.
Outside Luton the choice changes. Central Bedfordshire's register office is The Court House on Woburn Street in Ampthill, and Bedford Borough Council uses the Old Town Hall on St Paul's Square. Both are covered further down this page, together with the distance from Northwood to each.

Luton, 20 miles up the M1
The 2021 census counted 225,262 people in the Borough of Luton. Its largest Asian groups were Pakistani, with 41,143 residents or 18.3% of the borough, and Bangladeshi, with 20,630. A Muslim wedding in Luton might include a dholki at home, a mehndi in a hired hall, the nikah at a mosque, in a living room or at the walima venue, and then the walima itself, usually the biggest gathering of all.
Luton is the closest part of Bedfordshire to Northwood, so the drive is short compared with the north of the county. That makes it practical to photograph a mehndi one evening and a nikah the next morning without a long journey in between. Travel from Northwood to every address in your plan is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book.
For a Bangladeshi wedding the gaye holud, when relatives apply turmeric paste, holds the place in the week that the mehndi holds in a Pakistani wedding. Tell us which events you are holding and what each one involves, and the coverage is planned around those customs rather than a fixed list.
During the nikah
The nikah is brief and formal. The imam gives a short sermon, the mahr is agreed, the consent of both parties is asked and given, and the contract is signed before witnesses. Kaushik stays still and silent through the sermon and the recitation, and photographs the signing and the duas that follow from the edge of the room rather than the middle of it.
What is photographed is your family's decision. Some families want the whole nikah recorded, some only the signing and the groups afterwards, and some prefer no camera during the recitation at all. We go through the running order with you before the day, mark which moments are photographed and which are not, and keep to it.
When the call to prayer comes during any event, the camera goes down and stays down until salah is over and the family is ready. Modest dress, shoes off in a mosque or prayer room and a head covering when asked are simply part of the work. If the nikah is at a mosque, tell us your mosque and any photography guidance it gives, and we plan around it.

Portraits in Luton's parks
Between the nikah and the walima there is often an hour for portraits of the two of you. Wardown Park, near Luton town centre, is a Grade II listed historic park and garden; Luton Corporation bought the house and gardens in 1904, opened them in 1906 and added the suspension bridge over the boating lake in 1908. The bridge and the lakeside make a quiet frame a short drive from the town's halls.
Stockwood Park on London Road covers around 100 hectares on the southern edge of Luton. Its tree-lined avenue and historic walled garden come from the former Crawley family estate, which became council parkland in 1945. The walled garden is sheltered, which helps on a day when the wind would otherwise catch a dupatta or a long hem.
If the walima is in Dunstable, Priory Gardens surround the Grade I listed 12th-century Priory Church of St Peter and include a medieval physic garden. Dunstable Downs, the highest ground in Bedfordshire at about 243 metres, look out over the Vale of Aylesbury for something wider, though the ridge is windy in every season.
Beyond Luton
A Muslim wedding in Bedfordshire can reach well beyond Luton. Dunstable is about 20 miles from Northwood, Houghton Regis about 21, Leighton Buzzard about 24, Biggleswade about 34 and Bedford about 37. A plan that moves from a home in Houghton Regis to a hall in Bedford needs time built in for the drive, and the written quote lists each leg.
Central Bedfordshire's register office is The Court House in Ampthill, a former magistrates' court. The Ampthill Room takes 58 guests on Fridays to Sundays, the Woburn Room holds small Monday ceremonies of up to five, and the Ampthill Gardens behind the building have a gazebo used for outdoor ceremonies and for photographs after an indoor one. Local registrars also work from the Grove View hub on Court Drive in Dunstable and from Leighton Buzzard Library.
In Bedford the register office is in the Old Town Hall on St Paul's Square near the Embankment. Ceremonies there take up to 80 people, a number that includes the couple, the registrars and the photographer, and the upholstered Mayor's Seat is offered as a backdrop. Afterwards the Embankment Gardens, Russell Park and Mill Meadows run along the Great Ouse for a riverside walk.

Guests and the walima
Relatives flying in can land at London Luton Airport, and Luton Airport Parkway station has step-free access to all its platforms. Thameslink runs from Luton north to Flitwick and Bedford. Dunstable has no railway station of its own: the nearest is Leagrave in north Luton, about three miles away, and the guided busway links Houghton Regis, Dunstable, Luton and the airport.
The walima is usually the largest event, and with several hundred guests the time for family photographs is short. Send a group list before the day and agree when the groups will be done, so the photographs take a set slot in the evening rather than the whole of it. If you want stage photographs with each table, say so, and we keep the same background and framing so the album matches.
If your date falls on the late May bank holiday weekend, Luton International Carnival is held around then, so check road plans with your venue. Town pages for Luton, Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Bedford go into local detail, the national Muslim wedding photography page explains each event, and the Bedfordshire Asian wedding guide covers every tradition in the county.
Planning
At Luton Register Office the Georgian Room, for up to 20 guests, permits photography, while the Thursday 10am statutory room does not. Book the Georgian Room if you want the signing recorded.
Before the day, tell us which parts of the nikah stay unphotographed, such as the recitation. That list goes into the plan and is kept to on the day.
The 1908 suspension bridge over the boating lake at Wardown Park, near Luton town centre, suits a short portrait stop between the nikah and the walima.
Dunstable has no station. Point guests to Leagrave, about three miles away, or the guided busway from Luton, and allow for it in your start times.
At The Court House in Ampthill, the gardens and their gazebo can be used for photographs after an indoor ceremony, which saves moving on for the first portraits.

Good to know
Yes, if the ceremony is in the Georgian Room, which holds up to 20 guests and permits photography. The Thursday 10am statutory ceremonies for the couple and two witnesses are held in a room where photography is not allowed, so for one of those we photograph you outside afterwards instead.
Muslim wedding photography starts from £750. Packages are built around your day: the price reflects which events you want covered, such as a mehndi, the nikah and the walima, and any extras such as a second photographer or a hand-finished album. Travel from Northwood to each Bedfordshire address is set out in writing before you book.
Yes. Photography stops for the call to prayer and during salah, and starts again only when your family is ready. During the nikah sermon and recitation Kaushik stays still and quiet, and photographs only the moments you have agreed in advance.
Wardown Park near the town centre has a boating lake crossed by a suspension bridge from 1908, and Stockwood Park on London Road has a tree-lined avenue and a sheltered walled garden. In Dunstable, Priory Gardens beside the Priory Church of St Peter is close to the town centre.
Yes. Luton had 20,630 Bangladeshi residents at the 2021 census alongside its larger Pakistani community, and customs differ from one family to the next. We photograph the gaye holud as well as the mehndi, nikah, rukhsati and walima, and plan each around your own running order.
Bedford is about 37 miles from the Northwood studio, the farthest of the main Bedfordshire towns. That simply means an earlier departure, which is built into the plan. If the civil ceremony is at Bedford's Old Town Hall, up to 80 people can attend, photographers included, and the Embankment is a short walk away.
It depends on the mosque. Tell us your mosque and any photography guidance it gives, and we plan around it, including where to stand and whether the prayer hall can be photographed at all. A nikah at home or at the walima venue usually allows more, though your family's wishes still come first.
