A nikah resists photography, which is better said now than discovered later. Being spoken, ijab and qubool leave a lens nothing to hold. Visible instead: a face going still, a mother's grip tightening, a brother studying the carpet, so the listeners get watched rather than the speakers. The mahr and the witnesses carry a visible object between them, and those parts get covered properly, because a document will refer to them afterwards.
Signing produces two pictures that cannot be one. The nikah-nama needs to be legible and flat, lit from whichever side keeps our own shadow off it. The person signing has a face angled down at a table, therefore lit across the crown and not the face. Solve them in that order, separately, and never ask a couple to hold a pose over a legal form. Should a walima follow that evening, the exposure problem restarts from nothing, since a barn conversion after dark contains no daylight whatsoever.
