A milni takes place outside and early, reaching you as a sequence of pairings instead of one event. Nobody announces whose uncle comes next. We work long, keep each pair clean, and stand back so that garlanding is not screened by the men queuing behind. High sun that early buries eye sockets; flat cloud does the reverse. Either way, wherever the two of them stop is where the frame gets made.
Indoors the rules are absolute and quickly stated: put nothing extra into the light, move during no passage, and stand between nobody and the front. So it is long glass from a position at the rear of the darbar hall, wide open, plus patience. The ragis are worth a sequence of their own, since kirtan carries the whole morning in a pair of hands and a face. Each laav is paced the same, so all four will read as one frame unless we change position, which the room may not allow.
