We are calm and unhurried, gathering the whole story of the Anand Karaj without ever getting in the way. We photograph the small moments as carefully as the grand ones, the choora and kaleere as well as the four laavan. We blend candid storytelling with a handful of timeless portraits taken away from the bustle of the gurdwara.

From our London base we travel across Bedfordshire for Sikh weddings, and Woburn, home to the grand Woburn Abbey estate, is a familiar destination. We also photograph in nearby Luton and Dunstable. Woburn is a Bedfordshire village at the heart of the Bedford Estate, home for nearly 400 years to the Earls and Dukes of Bedford. Woburn has no railway station, sitting close to the M1 at junction 13, with the nearest rail at Woburn Sands on the Marston Vale line. We photograph the choora and kaleere given to the bride, and the quiet blessings of her elders. The langar that follows the ceremony, shared by the whole sangat, is a moment of community we capture with warmth. At the heart of a Sikh wedding is the Anand Karaj, the blissful union performed before the Guru Granth Sahib.

The reception is the joyful finale, with speeches, the first dance, bhangra and giddha. The dhol and bhangra of the jaggo are pure joy, and we capture every bit of the energy. We photograph the sehra bandi, when the groom's turban and sehra are tied, with all its ceremony.
