Position becomes the only variable, and position is not ours to take freely. Who stands where is the committee's call, settled weeks beforehand and never on the day. Their answer usually amounts to one fixed spot near a side wall, and knowing it early separates a considered frame from an apologetic one.
Floor seating for the whole sangat puts honest camera height at knee level and holds it there for hours. Shooting from standing photographs a congregation from above and reads as exactly that. Through the laavan it is the couple who move while everybody else stays put, so a frame is built once and the circuit walks into it. Langar runs the other way: long rows served low, better photographed down their length than across. Milni happens outdoors, and what sits behind it is usually a car park; an estate can offer better.
