Why Cheshire

Country house settings between two big cities

Cheshire is an appealing county for an Asian wedding because of where it sits. Warrington lies 16 miles from both Liverpool and Manchester, and Chester is close to the Welsh border, so guests from across the north-west and North Wales can reach either town easily. The countryside between offers estates, castles and Georgian manors with lawns large enough for a mandap, a marquee or a long baraat procession.

What shapes the photographs is your own plan: which events, which addresses in Chester, Warrington or beyond, how many guests and which traditions. Tell us your mandir, gurdwara or mosque and any photography guidance it gives, and we plan around it.

If your family is based in Greater Manchester and you have chosen a Cheshire venue for the main day, see our Greater Manchester Asian wedding page too.

The main day

Mandap, laavan or nikah at a Cheshire venue

Several Cheshire venues are licensed for outdoor ceremonies, which changes how a Hindu wedding is photographed. A mandap on a lawn gives open light and room to move, but it needs a plan for wind and showers. Kaushik works around the priest and the fire, covering the jaimala, kanyadaan, pheras and sindoor without crowding the family. The national Hindu weddings guide explains the order of rituals.

Sikh weddings usually begin at a gurdwara with the milni and anand karaj, then move to a Cheshire venue for the reception, sometimes a drive of half an hour or more. Kaushik follows the gurdwara's own photography guidance and agrees where he stands for the laavan before the ceremony starts. Read our Sikh weddings page.

For a Muslim wedding, the nikah may be held at home, at a mosque or at the venue, with the walima the same day or later. We keep coverage quiet during the nikah and prayers. See Muslim weddings.

Civil ceremony

Using the Chester or Warrington register office

Couples often hold the legal ceremony separately. In Chester, the Merchants Suite at Merchants House on Crook Street is a bright room with its own entrance, in use since May 2024. In Warrington, the ceremony room at 1 Time Square takes up to 80 guests.

A civil ceremony a few days or weeks before the main wedding can be photographed as a shorter booking, with portraits on Chester's walls or by Warrington's Golden Gates. Its travel is set out in writing like any other day.

Big numbers

Receptions for hundreds in a country setting

Some Cheshire venues are set up for large evening numbers, and hotel suites around Warrington are licensed for well over 200 guests. Bigger Asian receptions often use marquees or exclusive-use estates. Before the day, ask the venue where the stage will be, how the couple's entrance will run and what lighting is in the room, so the photographs of the entrance, speeches and first dance are planned.

Family photographs on an estate lawn need a set spot and a list. We pick a place near the reception room that works in sun or shade and run through the groups you send in advance, which keeps 30 or 40 groups moving at a steady pace. A second photographer is worth adding for receptions of several hundred guests.

Distance

Planning three days, 150 miles from Northwood

Cheshire is a long way from our studio, and multi-day weddings need honest planning. Each event, whether mehndi, sangeet, haldi, ceremony or reception, is costed on its own line, with the travel and hotel nights shown separately and agreed in writing before you book.

If events are spread between Chester, Warrington and a family home elsewhere in the north-west, send every address. We will map the journeys and suggest where staying over saves time.

Planning

Planning around Cheshire

01

Plan the outdoor mandap

A lawn ceremony at a Cheshire estate needs a wet-weather fallback. Agree a covered space with the venue before the day.

02

Point guests to Bank Quay

Warrington Bank Quay is a principal stop on the West Coast Main Line between Euston and Glasgow, so guests from London and Scotland can come by train.

03

Share gurdwara or mosque guidance

We follow the photography rules of each place of worship. Send any guidance from the committee or imam ahead of the day.

04

Stay close between events

With about 150 miles to Northwood, a night near Chester or Warrington between events is usually sensible and is set out in your written quote.

Good to know

Asian weddings in Cheshire: questions answered

Yes. Chester Register Office moved to Merchants House on Crook Street, and the Merchants Suite held its first wedding on 1 May 2024. It is a bright room with windows on three sides and its own entrance. A short booking covers the ceremony and portraits on the city walls nearby.

For Cheshire, the Asian wedding packages are priced from £750. Multi-day weddings are quoted to match the events you choose, with travel and any hotel nights shown separately, so the full figure is set out in writing before you book.

Yes, if the estate is licensed for outdoor ceremonies and allows an open flame for the pheras. Cheshire weather can turn quickly, so agree a covered fallback with the venue and tell us where it is, so the plan for the pheras works in either place.

The city walls, the Eastgate Clock and Grosvenor Park beside the Dee are all a short walk apart. If it rains, the Rows give covered walkways at first-floor level. Race days fill the centre, so on those dates we plan an early or late route.

Yes. A nikah at the family home is photographed quietly, following the family's and the imam's guidance, and we stop during prayers. Tell us any moments to keep private. The walima can then follow at a hotel or hall elsewhere in Cheshire on the same trip.

Yes. Warrington is 16 miles from Manchester, so you can split events across the border. Each is planned and costed separately, and we suggest where a night nearby keeps the driving down.

Yes. Warrington Bank Quay is a principal stop on the West Coast Main Line from London Euston, and it is one of five stations serving the town. Chester station on City Road has step-free access to all platforms, which helps older relatives.
