The community

Crawley's Indian and Pakistani communities

At the 2021 census, Asians made up 15.4% of Crawley's population, with people of Indian heritage at 6.2% and Pakistani heritage at 5.2%. Crawley is also home to about two-thirds of the UK's Chagossian population. That mix means a Crawley wedding might be a Gujarati Hindu ceremony, a Punjabi Sikh anand karaj or a Pakistani nikah and walima.

Tell us your mandir, gurdwara or mosque when you enquire, along with any photography guidance it gives, and Kaushik plans his positions around it. If the ceremony is at home in one of Crawley's neighbourhoods, a note on which rooms are used is just as helpful.

Crawley's new-town layout, with 14 neighbourhoods around the old centre, can put home events and the main ceremony only a few minutes apart, which makes a busy day easier to cover.

Several days

Mehndi, ceremony and reception: covering each day from Northwood

At about 35 miles from Northwood, West Sussex is close enough that most single days are covered as a trip out and back. For a celebration over three or four days, a local stay often makes more sense, especially when an evening sangeet is followed by an early haldi.

We price each event on its own, by hours and location, then add the travel from Northwood and any nights away as separate lines in a written quote. That lets you see what full coverage of every event costs, and choose shorter coverage for the smaller ones if you prefer.

If some events are in Horsham and others in Crawley, the two towns are close, and we plan the moves between them into the timeline.

Civil ceremony

Registering the marriage in Crawley or Horsham

If your religious ceremony is not also the legal one, you can register the marriage separately. The West Sussex Register Office in Crawley has the Balcony Room, where the ceremony can be held inside or on an open balcony, and the Henshall Ceremony Suite with its gold leaf artwork panel. In Horsham, Park House on North Street has a Drawing Room for up to 30 guests overlooking Horsham Park.

A short civil ceremony a few days before the main wedding gives a calm, formal set of pictures with close family. We can cover it as a short session, quoted separately.

Guests and groups

Gatwick arrivals, Three Bridges trains and the reception stage

With Gatwick in the borough since 1974 and Three Bridges on Thameslink, relatives from abroad, London and the Midlands can reach Crawley easily. Fixing the timings early helps those travelling to plan, and a family group session after the last flight lands is better than one before it.

For a reception of several hundred, we settle the family groups before the day, begin with the largest, and work through them at the stage in order. Tell us where the stage, entrance and dance floor are, so Kaushik is in place for the entrance, the speeches and the first dance.

An optional second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time, and adds another angle at the entrance.

Portraits

Outfit portraits in Crawley's parks and Horsham's gardens

Tilgate Park's lakes and woodland and Goffs Park's lawns and lake give space for portraits in full bridal outfits. Worth Park's formal beds and Victorian fountain suit a more structured look. For a pre-wedding shoot in Buchan Country Park, remember that the county council requires a permit for paid photoshoots there.

Near Horsham, Horsham Park's formal gardens sit right beside Park House, and The Causeway, lined with old London plane trees, gives a quiet historic street for an engagement shoot.
