Muslim weddings on Teesside and Hindu, Sikh and multi-day celebrations in historic York. Kaushik Bathia travels about 165 to 208 miles from Northwood, so every event and overnight stay is quoted in writing, one day at a time.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs Asian weddings in York, Middlesbrough and elsewhere in North Yorkshire, covering nikah and walima, Hindu and Gujarati ceremonies, Sikh anand karaj, mehndi, sangeet and receptions. The county is about 165 to 208 miles from the Northwood studio, so each day's travel and any overnight stays are set out in a written quote. Packages start from £750.
…Kaushik's work is fantastic and he took so much stress out of our special day. He and his team are highly professional, fun and friendly and work with you to capture the shots that you want. He captured some amazing moments of both us and our guests, some natural, some posed but all truly wonderful. We were blown away by our albums and videos and have no hesitation in recommending him to our family and friends.
Kaushik photographed out wedding on september last year. He was so professional and was great with everyone making them laugh before taking all the snaps. We really couldn't have asked for more he worked hard all day to get the best pictures. We are very pleased with all the pictures and love the photo album. We will differently be using you again in the future Thank you!
Kaushik Bathia does amazing pictures and can transform simple pictures into marvellous memories. I highly recommend him as a professional photographor for your personal and family events.
Teesside
Middlesbrough's Muslim community goes back well over a century. Muslim sailors visited the town from about 1890, the first halal butcher opened in 1961 and the first mosque opened in a house on Grange Road in 1962. Today the town has around seven mosques.
That history shapes the wedding calendar on Teesside: a mehndi with music and family performances, a nikah at a mosque or at home, and a walima on the same day or later. We plan each as a separate event, with quiet coverage during the nikah and prayers, following the imam's and family's guidance.
Read our Middlesbrough Muslim wedding guide and the national Muslim weddings page for more.

York
York's licensed venues are historic, from medieval guild halls to Georgian civic rooms and country houses in parkland. That brings practical questions for an Asian wedding: whether a havan fire is allowed indoors, how a mandap fits under old beams, and how many guests a hall can seat for a reception. Ask each venue in writing before you book.
A Hindu ceremony moves through the baraat, jaimala, kanyadaan, pheras and vidaai, and Kaushik works around the priest without crowding the fire. A Sikh morning usually starts at a gurdwara with the milni and anand karaj, and Kaushik follows that gurdwara's guidance on where to stand before the couple walk the laavan.
Tell us your mandir or gurdwara, whether in York or further afield, and any photography guidance it gives, and we plan the morning around it. See the national Hindu weddings and Sikh weddings pages.
Big receptions
Several of York's historic venues take around 120 guests or fewer, which suits a civil ceremony or a smaller dinner but not a reception for several hundred. For a large Asian reception in North Yorkshire, look at hotel suites in York or at Teesside event spaces with suites for up to 200.
Wherever the reception is, we ask for the stage position, the couple's entrance and the speech timings in advance, along with a list of family groups. Where the reception room has old beams or low light, we pick the spot for group photographs with the venue before the day. A second photographer is worth adding for very large guest numbers.

Civil ceremony
If you hold the civil ceremony separately, York's Bootham Suite takes 2 to 50 guests and gives you up to 20 minutes in its gardens for photographs. Middlesbrough's register office has two rooms in the Town Hall, entered from Dunning Street, and can also arrange ceremonies at other licensed venues.
A civil ceremony can be covered on its own, with portraits in Dean's Park by York Minster or in Albert Park in Middlesbrough. Its travel is quoted in writing like every other day of the wedding.
Distance
Middlesbrough is about 208 miles from Northwood and York about 165, so a North Yorkshire Asian wedding is a serious journey for us. Every event, from mehndi to walima, is planned and costed separately, with the travel and hotel nights listed in writing before you book.
For a three-day wedding, staying in the area throughout is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote. If events are split between Teesside and family homes elsewhere in Yorkshire, send every address and we will plan the route and the overnight stops.

Several of York's halls seat around 120. For a reception of several hundred, look at larger suites and confirm capacity in writing.

Town by town
York and Middlesbrough each have Asian, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim wedding guides, shown with their distance from Northwood.
Good to know
Yes. Middlesbrough's first mosque opened in a house on Grange Road in 1962, and the town now has around seven. Kaushik covers the mehndi, the nikah at home or at the mosque and the walima, and at about 208 miles from Northwood the travel and stays are quoted in writing for each day.
Possibly. Old guild halls and civic rooms may restrict open flames and candles, so ask in writing whether a havan is allowed before you book. If it is not, the pheras can happen at a hotel or a mandir, and the York hall can host a smaller dinner.
Coverage begins from £750. Multi-day weddings are quoted per event, with the hours, any second photographer and the travel and stays from Northwood each shown, set out in writing before you book.
Yes. The Bootham Suite at 56 Bootham takes 2 to 50 guests and opens onto landscaped gardens, where couples get up to 20 minutes for photographs. It suits a small legal ceremony with parents and grandparents a day or two before the religious one.
Yes. The City Walls walkway, Dean's Park on the north side of the Minster and Rowntree Park by the Ouse all suit a pre-wedding shoot in mehndi or sangeet outfits. An early start beats the crowds, and the shoot is quoted in writing with its travel.
Middlesbrough station is served by Northern, TransPennine Express and LNER, but direct trains to King's Cross are limited. Guests may find it easier to change at York, a principal stop on the East Coast Main Line, so build that into the timings for the first event.
Albert Park covers 74 acres and was restored between 2001 and 2004, and it has a bronze statue of a young Brian Clough. Stewart Park has lakes, Victorian stable buildings and the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum, which give quieter settings between a nikah and a walima.
