An Asian wedding week holds several weddings' worth of work, separated by gaps. Those gaps do more damage or more good than any single ceremony does. Nobody puts an interval on a running order, and every interval still has to be worked. Cards get emptied in them. Batteries go on charge. Somebody works out what the next room will do to colour before a camera is carried into it. The hour nobody photographs is the hour that decides the rest.

A family here chooses between The Mansion House, The Guildhall, The Grand, and one dull thing is worth asking at each: where does a case of kit go overnight when the same room is wanted again tomorrow. What that choice does not settle is consistency: four events across four rooms means four different light sources, and unless somebody imposes an order on them afterwards what lands in the gallery reads as four separate parties instead of one wedding.

From mehndi to reception, across every faith

A mehndi evening has no running order, poor light, and the least guarded faces anyone will pull all week. It wants a loose hand and one small light rather than a plan. Everything reverses at the ceremony: fixed in shape, and governed by somebody who is neither the couple nor us. Authority over that room sits with one person, and what a lens is permitted to do sits with them too. Ask weeks ahead. Nobody negotiates well on a wedding morning.

The reception is the room we get to build. Nothing in it is fixed, which means every decision about colour and shadow belongs to us and there is nobody to blame for a flat frame. Then the whole week has to be pulled together into one set of pictures. A gallery that jumps from tungsten to daylight to whatever a hired uplighter was doing reads as a mess, so the grading is done across events rather than within them.

Do you provide a second photographer?+

Yes, if a day calls for one. The gain is coverage of two places at once: separate rooms, the same hour, neither missed. It does not mean more frames of one moment, which is the assumption we most often have to correct.

Have you worked with dhol players, DJs and other suppliers before?+

Dhol players and a DJ set the limits a camera works within. We settle positions and cues with them first, so that the opening drum roll is not when everybody discovers where everybody else intends to stand. Lighting crews get the same conversation.

Are you experienced with Tamil and South Indian weddings?+

Sequences differ, so the order gets asked for and never assumed. Somebody from the family, or the priest, walks us through it beforehand; we work to their sequence rather than turning up with a northern running order in mind and being corrected halfway.

How many photographs will we receive from a multi-day wedding?+

More days produce more frames, though what counts is the number surviving the cut. Every event is edited to what stands up, never to a quota, so a week of them delivers several times over what one day would.

Do you take formal family group photographs at Asian weddings?+

Yes, and we schedule them where relatives actually are, which is usually seated at the meal rather than lined up afterwards. Chasing uncles around a building costs an hour nobody has. A written list, agreed early, keeps that hour with the couple instead.
