From newborns to grandparents in Southwark

Plan on somewhere near forty minutes of willing cooperation from a small child, which is plenty provided none of it goes on walking. We choose a single spot, stay put, and let the children treat the place as theirs for the duration.

Everybody photographed receives the same gallery afterwards, so a grandparent who could not travel is not left chasing copies of anything. Prints are ordered straight from it, at whatever size the wall actually wants. Nothing gets held back for a separate viewing appointment.

Why choose us

A safe pair of hands in Southwark

We keep group sessions moving and light, so even the youngest do not lose patience. We bring warmth and good humour to every session, so a houseful of children feels fun rather than fraught.

The studio is kept warm for newborn work, warmer than most adults find comfortable, because a cold baby will not settle and a settled baby is the entire session. We are happy to include grandparents, older children, a family pet or a treasured toy in your session.

Good to know

Family Photographer in Southwark, FAQs

Yes. In Southwark that session belongs in your own home instead of a park or our room, because a newborn is on a feed and sleep cycle no venue improves. We photograph the older children with the baby early, while they still find it interesting, then release them and concentrate on the baby once the room has quietened down again.

Yes. Many families choose a package that follows baby's first year, from a newborn session through sitting up and first steps to a cake smash on the first birthday. It is a lovely way to capture how quickly your little one grows. For Southwark bookings, getting here is simple: served by London Bridge station and Southwark Underground station on the Jubilee line.

It is, but from Southwark the answer is usually still no, and better said outright. Northwood sits across the whole city, and a cross-London trip with a toddler and a pram burns more patience than the session itself will use. Southwark Park or your own front room delivers the same pictures without spending the child's good hour on a train.

Mostly, and Southwark Park is the reason. A Victorian layout gives children real destinations, a lake and a rose garden, so there is somewhere to be heading and something to look at instead of an instruction to stand still. We photograph what happens between those points. The one arranged frame is taken early and quickly, then everybody is let go.

Because the ground gets chosen by the month. In summer we use whatever shade Southwark Park offers, in winter the open parts where light still reaches, and the rose garden only when it is genuinely in flower. On a wet day light comes into your front room instead. Either way the session stays in the borough, and nobody crosses London pushing a pram.

Serving Southwark

A family photographer near Southwark

We photograph family sessions right across London, and Southwark (Greater London) is well within our regular patch. It sits close to Lambeth and Lewisham, which we cover too. You are always welcome at the Northwood studio too.

A historic riverside borough in central London known for its cultural quarter along the South Bank and the vibrant Borough Market food scene. Served by London Bridge station and Southwark Underground station on the Jubilee line. When a session suits an outdoor setting, Southwark Park is a favourite near Southwark, close to Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe theatre on the Bankside riverfront.

A family session in Southwark is shaped by the plan of Southwark Park more than by the forecast. A Victorian layout means a circuit of destinations, a lake at one point and a rose garden at another, joined by deliberate walking. Two things follow for anybody turning up with a pram and a grandparent. The first is welcome: there is a route between the interesting parts, so wheels and unsteady feet are not being sent across open turf. The second is a warning. Distance between destinations gets paid for out of a young child's patience, and that budget does not stretch. A four year old will spend the lot walking if allowed, leaving nothing by the time a camera appears. Tree cover is the other trap, wherever the park offers it. Broken sun coming through leaves prints in patches across a face, and no editing afterwards removes it. Solid shade works and clean open sky works; the boundary between them, which is where people instinctively stand, is the one place that does not. The lake settles the rest. Water and a toddler need a grown-up positioned between them for the whole session, and once that adult is placed, everybody else arranges around them, which is why the group ends up standing where it does. A bench within reach counts for more than the view does, because a grandparent with a seat close by will stay for the whole hour instead of the first twenty minutes of it.
