We get there before the first sitter is due, put lights up, and then photograph people one after another as diaries release them, so nobody surrenders a working morning to waiting. Each person needs a few minutes rather than an ordeal.
The arrangement is noted at the end, background, height and distance together. Somebody joining in March can then be photographed to match what is already published, without the entire page having to be remade around them. Files come back in a tight crop for profile use and a looser one that leaves room for text.

The first thing to be straight about is geography. Our room sits in Northwood, well outside the central area, and Southwark is squarely inside it. Moving between the two is a crossing of the whole city, not a gap between meetings, and treating it as a short hop is how a booking swallows the morning it was meant to save. For a headshot in this borough the sensible default runs the other direction, and the lights go to the sitter. Much of the work here belongs to two populations the borough points straight at. A cultural quarter along the South Bank means arts and heritage organisations with staff pages to keep filled. A Borough Market food trade means people whose working clothes are aprons and whites.
