Almost every headshot connected with the Square Mile is ordered by a firm rather than wanted by the person being photographed, and that sets the brief before we open a case. The picture does not need to be interesting. It needs to sit in a row of colleagues at the same crop, the same eye height and the same background weight, so a client scrolling a team page cannot pick out who was done last. We record the setup used for each firm, which means a starter photographed in October can be lit and framed exactly as the people done in April. The other thing this district decides is lighting. Finance dresses dark, and a dark suit against a dark background surrenders the shoulder line completely, leaving the head to float with no body under it. So the background gets a light of its own, set to read a stop or so brighter than the jacket, and the shape of the person comes back. Getting to us is worth thinking about honestly. Bank and Liverpool Street bring the Central, Northern, Circle and Elizabeth lines into the district, so one person can reasonably come out to the Northwood studio when they want a background that has nothing to do with their employer. A team is a different calculation. Twelve people leaving their desks for half a day costs a firm far more than one photographer travelling in, so we come to you and take a room for the day instead.
