A sitting is walked rather than staged. We start wherever the light is working that morning, move between two or three positions, and show you frames on the screen between them so a background can be ruled out before we commit to it.
Editing is colour, contrast and tidying only. Features are not reshaped. The finished set arrives as edited files at two sizes, one for screen use and one large enough to print properly. Nothing is added that was not there on the day.

- The Sky Garden occupies the top three floors of 20 Fenchurch Street, Rafael Viñoly's 160-metre 'Walkie-Talkie' completed in 2014, with a viewing area, terrace, bar and restaurants described as a free public viewing space, though access is restricted. 1
- Barber-Surgeons' Gardens, between London Wall and the Barbican lakes, is a physic garden of over 40 herb species once used to treat wounds, bruises and burns. 2
- City Gardens photography licence. The City of London Corporation requires a licence or permit for organised photoshoots, including engagement, wedding and portrait shoots, in its gardens and churchyards, though casual visitor photos need no permission. 3
- The Monument to the Great Fire of London, designed by Robert Hooke under Christopher Wren and built between 1671 and 1677, is a 61.6-metre Grade I listed column standing 202 feet from the spot in Pudding Lane where the fire began. 4

Yes. The limit is space rather than headcount. Pavements in the City of London are working thoroughfares, and ten people standing on one will block it. Postman's Park is the sensible answer for anything above four, since the paths and benches give us somewhere to arrange people without being in the way. Tell us the number when booking so the spot is chosen before the day.
Because the plan is specific before we arrive. We start inside Postman's Park, where the trees and benches give a settled background and somewhere to pause, then walk out towards St Paul's only if the streets are quiet enough to work in. That order builds a fallback into the sitting, so a wet morning changes the route in the City of London rather than cancelling the booking.
Pack a spare layer in a contrasting shade. Backgrounds in the City of London run from pale cathedral stone to near black glass, and one wardrobe rarely works against both. Wear shoes you can cover a few streets in, since we move between positions. Leave a fresh haircut for the week before, not the morning. If you wear glasses, bring them, and we angle the head instead.

Anyone coming by rail can use Liverpool Street, a Zone 1 station on the Elizabeth line as well as the Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. Sessions in the City itself can also use Postman's Park.

The Square Mile is built high and built close, and that single fact decides most of what happens in a sitting here. Direct sun reaches pavement level only for a narrow window either side of noon. For the rest of the day the light landing on a face has bounced off glass and pale stone before it arrives, which is soft and flattering, but it also carries the colour of whatever surface it came from. A face standing beside a wall of tinted glazing can turn cool and slightly green before anyone notices. The correction is position rather than equipment: turn the sitter until the largest pale surface in reach is doing the work and the tinted wall falls behind them instead. Postman's Park is the ground worth walking to near St Paul's, and the benches matter as much as the trees. Working at seated height drops the horizon behind the head and removes the moving background that a City pavement guarantees at any hour. The trees complicate summer, though. In full leaf they break sunlight into hard patches that cross a face and cannot be edited away, so from late spring the shaded half of the garden is the better ground and midday the worst hour to book. Winter reverses all of it.
