What survives a three day wedding is usually not the ceremony frame. It is the corridor, the back seat of the car, a mother straightening a dupatta, the hour when nothing at all is scheduled and everybody is finally sitting down. Those pictures are the reason coverage should be bought in blocks that include the empty stretches, not trimmed to the events themselves. Cut the gaps out of a quote and you have cut out the half of the week you will actually reread.

- Merchant Taylors' Hall at 30 Threadneedle Street (EC2R 8JB) is licensed for weddings and civil partnerships, with its Great Hall holding up to 280 guests and a Courtyard Garden. 1
- Islington Registrar (Islington Town Hall). Marriages and civil partnerships for the City of London are provided by the Islington Registrar, whose ceremony rooms are in the listed Islington Town Hall on Upper Street, with seven ceremony rooms holding between 2 and 85 guests and a sweeping marble staircase. 2
- Leadenhall Market's Grade II listed wrought-iron and glass building was designed by Horace Jones in 1881, is owned by the City of London Corporation, and appeared as the approach to the Leaky Cauldron in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. 3
- Aldgate Square, between the Aldgate School and St Botolph without Aldgate church, has a central lawn, raised planters for seating, a curve of pleached hornbeams and a water feature of parabolic jets that children can play in. 4

By building the timeline in reverse from the final fixed point and working out where the slack really is. Two bodies stay ready so no lens change costs a moment. Food gets eaten standing up, and batteries change on a fixed rota.
Always. We bring two working camera bodies plus a spare, a duplicate lens across each focal range, extra flashes, more cards than the day can fill, and a second bag left in the car in case the first one fails.
We turn up early, locate whoever holds responsibility for the building, and ask before assuming. Shoes, phones, position and lighting all follow the building's answer, not our preference. Inside, we stay at the edges and off the centre of the floor.
Well enough to know that seven laps past one background will produce one photograph unless we keep moving, and that an overhead canopy takes away the angle most people reach for first. Planning gets built around the fastest moments.
