Brunswick House at 30 Wandsworth Road is a Georgian mansion beside Vauxhall station, occupied since 2005 by the architectural salvage company LASSCO. It works as a restaurant, bar and event venue, and its rooms are filled with salvage, antiques and curiosities that are for sale, so the backdrop changes from one season to the next. For weddings it is a reception venue: LASSCO publishes room hire for the wedding breakfast and party, with food from the in-house restaurant, but says nothing about a ceremony licence, and Brunswick House does not appear on Lambeth Council's list of licensed ceremony venues.

Our studio is at 21 Joel St, Northwood Hills HA6 1NU, photographing weddings since 2001 and rated 4.8 out of 5 from 580+ Google reviews. We are glad to photograph at Brunswick House, and coverage starts from £750. Below is what LASSCO publishes, and what it does not.

What Brunswick House charges for a wedding

LASSCO publishes venue hire fees for weddings, all plus VAT (weddings page):

  • Exclusive hire of the whole house: £6,000, for 110 seated or 250 standing.
  • Ground and first floor: £4,000, for 110 seated or 180 standing.
  • First floor and cellars: £4,000, for 70 seated or 120 standing.
  • Ground floor and cellars: £3,000, for 180.

Single rooms are also priced, plus VAT, and individual room hire is available Tuesday to Thursday (Brunswick House page): the Saloon £950, the Smoking Room £550, the Saloon and Smoking Room together £1,500, the Library and Parlour from £500, and the Cellar Rooms from £1,350. The Library, Parlour and Cellar Rooms also carry food and drink minimum spends, which are not published.

Food and drink are on top of hire. LASSCO links a 2027 wedding menu, catering and packages PDF from its weddings page (wedding menu 2027 PDF), but the file would not open when we checked, so per-head prices are not quoted here; ask the events team to send it. Because the legal ceremony has to happen elsewhere, budget for registrar or venue fees at your ceremony location too.

A reception venue: where the ceremony happens

LASSCO's wedding pages describe Brunswick House as a place to "eat and drink within magnificent rooms" and as reception spaces (events page). They do not say the house is licensed for civil ceremonies. Lambeth Council's list of licensed ceremony venues names twelve venues, and Brunswick House is not among them (Lambeth licensed venues). On what is published, couples should hold the legal ceremony at a register office, a town hall or another licensed venue, then come to Brunswick House for the reception. Lambeth's ceremonies team (love@lambeth.gov.uk, 020 7926 7758) can advise on ceremonies in the borough.

Catering comes from the in-house restaurant, which LASSCO says serves contemporary British cuisine, wine and champagne, under the direction of Jackson Boxer (Brunswick House page). LASSCO does not publish whether outside caterers are allowed, whether it hosts Asian wedding receptions, or which vegetarian, halal or other menus it offers. A blessing or religious ceremony at the house is also not mentioned. Ask the events team in writing about each one.

What Brunswick House publishes on rules for the day

LASSCO publishes no wedding rules for photography, confetti, candles or finish times. The house is also hired for film and photo shoots, with each room styled differently (venues page), so it is used to cameras, but agree the details with the events team.

Where a rule is shown as not published, ask the venue in writing before the day.

Getting ready for a Brunswick House wedding

LASSCO does not publish a getting-ready room, and Brunswick House has no bedrooms listed. Since the ceremony takes place elsewhere, most couples will get ready at home or a hotel, with preparation photographs there, and arrive at Vauxhall after the ceremony. If you want a room on site for a change of outfit for the evening, ask whether one of the smaller rooms, such as the Parlour or the Study, can be set aside within your hire (Brunswick House page).

Salvage, fireplaces and a roof terrace: planning photographs

  • The Saloon has five bays, two chimneypieces, open fires and access to a roof terrace (Brunswick House page); the terrace is the place for an outdoor portrait.
  • The Smoking Room on the first floor faces south, with an open fire, chandeliers and original floorboards; a south-facing room is the brighter choice for daytime portraits indoors.
  • The Parlour is described as light and lofty with tall windows, and a salvaged door case leads into the Library, whose central post is made from railway lines.
  • The Study is a mid-18th-century panelled room with a chandelier and fireplace, suited to a quieter couple portrait.
  • The Cellar Rooms are vaulted, with large fireplaces, flagstones and remains of a 17th-century building. They are darker, so plan evening pictures there with that in mind.
  • Because the salvage on display is for sale and changes, walk the rooms close to your date to see what will be in the background.

Belmont House, the Duke of Brunswick and LASSCO

The foundation stone of the house, laid in 1758, can still be seen in the cellar. It was first called Belmont House, was divided in two internally, and for a time was occupied by the Duke of Brunswick. It overlooked the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, and the Thames once reached a jetty behind it before the embankment pushed the river back. Railway viaducts later blocked the view, and railwaymen used it as a club with a theatre and snooker halls. After a period of squatting, LASSCO took it over in 2005 (Brunswick House page). LASSCO calls it "Vauxhall's sole surviving Georgian mansion" (weddings page).

Vauxhall station, exit 4, and the Nine Elms Lane yard

Brunswick House is about two minutes' walk from Vauxhall station on the Victoria line; use exit 4 for Wandsworth Road. It stands on the corner of Wandsworth Road and Nine Elms Lane, opposite the Vauxhall bus depot. LASSCO asks taxi drivers to drop off somewhere safe, as the junction is busy (Brunswick House page). We travel to Vauxhall from our Northwood Hills studio; any travel cost is set out in your written quote.

Parking at Brunswick House

The venue has a yard for parking. LASSCO says the easiest approach by car is from Nine Elms Lane, pulling into the yard on the left; otherwise use the U-turn about 200m along Nine Elms Lane and come back to the yard (Brunswick House page). The number of spaces and any overnight rules are not published, so ask the events team before telling guests to drive.
