We photograph the tying of the mangalsutra as a moment of quiet weight, holding the expressions of both of you and the elders looking on with such visible pride. The kanyadaan asks a great deal of your parents, and we photograph it with care, holding the tears and the release in frames that your family will return to for years. Madhuparka, when the groom is offered honey and yoghurt before the ceremony proper, gives lovely close frames of the vessels, the hands and the slightly self-conscious first sip.
The garba and raas ask us to keep moving, and we do, photographing the whirl of the dandiya and the colour of the outfits without ever slowing the energy down. Pithi at home is often held in a courtyard or a garden with harsh overhead light, so we look for shade or a doorway and place you in it before the smearing begins. The pithi is intimate and full of teasing, and we photograph the closeness of it, the cousins with paste on their hands and the laughter that fills the room.

We are there for the getting-ready hours on both sides, documenting the sari, the safa and the moments shared with parents and siblings. We often begin days before the wedding, with the haldi and the mehndi, when the celebrations are relaxed and full of family.
Outfit changes between the ceremony and the reception are a natural break, and we use them to reset lighting in the reception room while you are away rather than afterwards. A second photographer, if you choose to add one, changes the evening most of all, since the entrance, the reactions and the wider room can all be covered at the same moment.
