We photograph the kanyadaan and the hastamelap as one flowing sequence, holding the giving of the hand and the binding of the union so the story of the ritual stays whole. Mangalsutra threads are fine and dark, easy to lose against a red outfit, so we move to where the light catches the beads as the knot is tied at the back of the neck. The mangalpheras move quickly, and we anticipate each turn around the fire so the rings of the ritual, the trailing dupatta and the priest's guidance all sit clearly in the pictures.
Kalire tied to the bangles get shaken over the heads of unmarried friends later, which makes a lovely, chaotic little sequence to photograph in among the calmer parts of the morning. Before the wedding we often do an engagement or pre-wedding shoot, giving us time to get to know you and giving you relaxed, natural pictures ahead of the big days. We love a sangeet, and we photograph the rehearsed performances, the surprise dances and the roar from the family as each group takes its turn on the stage.

First light on a summer wedding day is genuinely beautiful and almost never used, so if your timings allow it we will suggest ten minutes outside before anything else begins. A haldi is bright, messy and full of joy, and we photograph it in a way that holds on to every stained hand and shared smile.
Elders often leave before the dancing starts, so we make sure the pictures with grandparents are taken during the afternoon rather than saved for an evening they will not see.
