Mehndi nights carry no schedule worth the name. Something begins once enough people have arrived, and the pictures worth keeping come out of the corners, not the middle. We work those evenings on longer lenses from further back, because the instant anybody notices a camera at close range the whole room starts behaving. Nobody performs on a mehndi night, which is its entire value. The thing to ask at booking is not when it begins but when we may go home.
A wedding morning runs the other way: compressed, formal, and largely decided by where the chairs already are. A baraat arriving outdoors supplies the only uncontrolled daylight of the day and lasts about two minutes, so somebody has to be waiting at the other end before it moves off. Rukhsati arrives when everybody is exhausted and nobody has patience left for a camera, which argues for photographing it quietly, briefly, and then stopping.
