A mandap is built furniture: four uprights, a covered top, and it will crop your pictures whether or not you want it to. Choose a bad corner and one post sits across the bride's face throughout kanyadaan. Two corners usually work, and we identify them before guests arrive, then ask the priest to nominate the side he would rather we kept to, and stay put. Earlier, at the haldi and during a varmala, we can walk. Under the canopy the geometry has already decided things on your behalf.
Saptapadi repeats one path. Seven photographs that resemble each other are worth roughly what a single one is, so the laps get divided up: low then high, wide then long, one side of the room then the other, which lets the set read as progression instead of motor drive. The opposite problem is sindoor, over in two seconds, usually with an uncle's shoulder across it. For that a second body waits pre-focused on the gap before anybody rises.
