For the City of London

Pet photography in the City of London

The dog sets the pace. We photograph from low down, level with the head rather than looking onto it, which is what makes an animal look like itself. Treats and a familiar toy do more than any instruction we could give, so bring both.

If the dog has had enough after twenty minutes, that is the session, and we would rather stop there. Clerkenwell, Farringdon and the Barbican are also covered. Older or anxious animals are booked at the quietest hour we can get.

Puppy Photography

Older dogs photographed sitting, in short visits, because hard paving is no place for tired joints.

Local and experienced

Why owners across London choose us

Working dogs and house pets are approached differently. A gundog is used to commands and responds to them, while a family dog responds to its name and a squeaky toy. We watch for the small moments, the paw raised, the tongue out, the sleepy blink, that make a pet portrait feel alive.

Wall art comes as fine prints, framed pictures or canvases, and one large print of a single animal is by far the most common choice owners make. Every session ends with a set of carefully edited photographs that show your pet exactly as you know it.

Good to know

Pet Photographer in the City of London, FAQs

You receive a gallery of carefully edited photographs showing your pet just as you know it. From there, owners in City Of London can choose prints, framed pictures or canvases for the wall. We keep the turnaround fast, so you are not left waiting to see the results. Open air sessions near the City of London can use Postman's Park, a quiet green space near St Paul's with mature trees and benches.

Very. With twenty-five years behind the lens and thousands of sessions, we have photographed dogs, cats, horses and small pets of every age and temperament. That experience means a calm, quick and gentle presence that puts even anxious animals at ease. This applies across the City of London and Clerkenwell, Farringdon and Barbican.

Of course you can. Portraits of owners with their pets are among the most moving we make for families in City Of London. You are welcome in the frame, showing the bond between you, or just out of shot keeping your animal calm and looking our way. Around the City of London we plan for landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral, designed by Sir Christopher Wren.

Very little. A good walk beforehand can settle an excitable dog, and a hungry pet is often keener on treats. Bring a favourite toy, and otherwise just let your animal be itself. We will handle the patience, the play and the perfect timing. Getting to the City of London is straightforward for us: served by Bank and Liverpool Street stations, with the Central, Northern, Circle and Elizabeth lines all running through it.

Both, though in the City of London the choice is nearly made for you. There is no enclosed ground in the Square Mile, so an outdoor session here is an on lead one, usually at Postman's Park, where the quiet suits a dog that reacts to noise and movement. Anything wanting a lead off, a plain background, or a cat, happens at the Northwood studio with the door shut.

Pet photography in the Square Mile is a small trade, and the ground explains it. Everything underfoot is paved, nothing is enclosed, and a lead therefore stays clipped on from start to finish. That removes the loose frames entirely, so what remains is a sitting built on stillness: a dog on a bench, a dog beside pale stone, a dog looking at its owner rather than running at them. Postman's Park earns its place here for a reason that has nothing to do with how it looks. It is quiet. Most dogs photograph badly outdoors because of noise and because people keep arriving behind them, and a calm garden removes both problems at once. A nervous animal that would be useless on a busy street will often settle within a few minutes there. The benches help twice over, since lifting a small dog onto one brings its eyes up to camera level, and a picture taken from above a dog is mostly a picture of the top of a dog. Coat colour is the other decision. City paving, wet or dry, sits in the same dark mid tones as a black or dark brindle coat, and against it every edge of the animal disappears. Wren's cathedral stone is the opposite, pale enough to hold an outline, and that is where a dark dog should be standing. Older animals get short visits and are photographed sitting throughout, because hard paving is no surface to ask tired joints to work on.
