At the eastern end of the borough, Canary Wharf on the Isle of Dogs is a business district built on the former West India Docks. Canary Wharf station sits in zone 2 on the Jubilee line, the Elizabeth line and the DLR, so a team day at an E14 office is easy for staff to reach. At the borough's western edge stands the Tower of London, founded in 1066, a contrast to the glass of Canary Wharf further east.

A headshot booked here has to answer a question most places never raise, which is which of two conventions it belongs to. Canary Wharf is a financial district, and finance has settled on a narrow look. Tight crop, background either plain or thrown well out of focus, light even on both sides, jacket, nothing in the frame competing for attention. The long-established residential streets of the same borough are full of people running practices, small firms, studios and shops, and that work gets sold on approachability instead. Wider frame, some of the room left in, shoulder turned, jacket optional. Neither is better than the other. A picture made to the wrong convention still fails, because it arrives on a page among people who all agreed on the other. Settle that before the travel question, because the travel question deserves a straight answer. We work out of The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6, and this is an east London borough, so the two of us sit at opposite ends of the map. Canary Wharf station carries the Jubilee and Elizabeth lines and the DLR threads the rest of the area, so moving about locally is quick, but reaching HA6 is a genuine cross-London journey and we are not going to dress it up. What follows from that is simple enough. If you want the controlled finance look, the journey buys light that ignores the sky entirely. If you want the warmer version, we travel east and work in your own room.
