I was nervous about my newborn’s photoshoot but Kaushik made the experience very unforgettable. He knew how to handle my two week old baby with care. The pictures came out very beautiful and were forever grateful. He’s honestly the best. Very experienced, patient and professional. I’ll definitely use him again.

We had a baby and family photo shoot with Kaushik over the weekend. He was extremely professional and very good with our baby! He has all the tricks and toys to make our little one smile and laugh during the shoot (which kept us entertained too!) would highly recommend Kaushik for baby photo shoots! Many thanks for capturing such beautiful photos for us!

He really knew how to keep them entertained and capture their personalities so naturally. 🥰📸 The photos came out absolutely beautiful, and these are memories we will cherish for a lifetime.

Why at home

A newborn session that stays in your West London flat or house

In the first fortnight, getting a new baby, a car seat and a recovering parent across West London traffic is hard work. A newborn session at home removes all of that. Your baby stays in familiar surroundings, feeds happen on your own sofa, and an older brother or sister can drift in and out without missing nap time. The pictures also carry the place: the nursery you painted, the window you sat by in the night, the stairs of a Fulham terrace.

Distances here are short compared with the counties around London. Northolt is about 4 miles from Northwood, Southall about 6.5, and Ealing Broadway about 7.6, so a mid-morning start is easy to plan. Homes in Chiswick, Queen's Park or Kilburn sit at about 10 miles, and Kensington and Chelsea at about 11. Travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book, whichever of these you live in.

Timing

Booking around a due date when home is Acton, Feltham or Kilburn

Newborns photograph best in the first 5 to 14 days, while they sleep deeply and curl up the way they did before birth. Babies rarely arrive on the day predicted, so the usual approach is to get in touch during pregnancy, agree a provisional window around your due date, and send a message once your baby is born. The date is then fixed for a morning in that first fortnight.

If your baby needed a few extra days in hospital, or feeding is taking time to settle, the session simply moves later. A baby of three or four weeks still makes lovely pictures, just more awake and less curled. Tell Kaushik anything your midwife or health visitor has advised and the plan follows it.

On the day

Warmth, safety and how the morning runs

Newborns lose heat quickly, so before Kaushik arrives it helps to warm the room where the session will happen and to have a feed done or about to start. He looks for the room with the best daylight, often a bedroom or the front room of a terraced house, and sets up close to the window. Every pose is led by your baby's comfort. Nothing is forced, and a parent's hand stays close for anything that needs support.

Allow most of a morning. There are pauses for feeds, changes and settling, and nobody watches the clock. Close-up details of fingers, toes and eyelashes are taken while your baby sleeps; the family pictures come when everyone is ready. Spare babygrows, a dummy if you use one and a favourite wrap are all worth having to hand.

Brothers and sisters

Older siblings, grandparents and a quick family walk

Older children are part of the story, and their pictures are usually taken first, while their patience is fresh. A toddler holding a sleeping baby is photographed with a parent just out of frame, ready to help. Where grandparents live nearby or under the same roof, whether that is in Southall, Hounslow or Greenford, a three-generation picture can be planned for the end of the session.

If the weather is kind and you feel up to it, a few family frames outside can round things off. In Northolt, Islip Manor Park has flower beds, old trees and a conservation meadow about five minutes' walk from the station. In Northfields, Bramley Gardens sits next to the library, about 50 metres from the station, with a grassy central lawn and mature trees. These are short, gentle stops, never a hike with a two-week-old.

What comes next

From bump to first birthday in West London

A newborn session can sit in the middle of a year of pictures. A maternity session between 28 and 34 weeks can be taken at home or in a park such as Walpole Park in Ealing, and the two can be planned together. Sitter portraits follow at around 6 to 9 months, once your baby sits unaided.

At around 11 to 13 months comes the first birthday cake smash, photographed at the Northwood studio with the cake you choose. The maternity and sitter sessions can be at home, or you can visit the studio for those too. A christening or naming day in a local church or at home is another occasion that can follow.

Planning

Planning around West London

01

Pencil in a date early

Get in touch during pregnancy with your due date. A provisional window is held, and the date is fixed once your baby arrives, ideally within the first 5 to 14 days.

02

Warm the room first

A newborn needs a cosy room. Turn the heating up in the room you will use before the session starts, especially in a high-ceilinged Victorian house in Ealing or Kensington.

03

A window for the light

A bedroom or front room with a good window is all that is needed. Flats in Hammersmith and terraced houses in Kilburn both work well when the window faces the right way.

04

Siblings go first

Older brothers and sisters are photographed early in the morning's session, before their patience runs out. A toddler holding the baby is always done with a parent within arm's reach.

05

Short, flat outdoor stops

If you would like a family frame outdoors, choose somewhere level and close, such as Bramley Gardens in Northfields, rather than a long walk with a newborn.

Places close to home in West London

A few West London parks and gardens that suit a short family frame outdoors once you feel ready. Check the entrances and facilities before you go.

  • Dean Gardens: Dean Gardens, formerly Ealing Dean Common, was allotments until 1909, when West Ealing residents petitioned for it to become a park; its main entrance is on the Uxbridge Road and it has two play areas. 1
  • Roundwood Park: Roundwood Park on Harlesden Road, north-east of Park Royal in Brent, is a formal Victorian park with Grade II listed status and a Green Flag Award, and a dog control order covers its entrance and flower garden areas. 2
  • Haven Green: Haven Green gives its name to a conservation area in the Ealing Broadway ward, first designated in 1982 and extended in 1993. 3
  • Walpole Park: Walpole Park is a 28-acre park in the centre of Ealing, opened to the public in 1901 from the former grounds of Pitzhanger Manor, and is listed Grade II on the Register of Parks and Gardens. 4
  • Gladstone Park: Gladstone Park (Parkside, NW2 6RW) sits on a hill with views across London and has meadows, tree-lined avenues, a walled garden, rose terraces, a duck pond and a café, and it has held the Green Flag Award. 5

Where in West London we come to you

These are the West London towns with their distance from Northwood. Every one of them is close enough for a newborn session in your own home.

Good to know

Newborn photography in West London: questions answered

Get in touch before your due date. Kaushik holds a provisional window and fixes the session once your baby is born, ideally within the first 5 to 14 days. Ealing Broadway is about 7.6 miles from Northwood, so a morning session at home is straightforward to arrange at short notice once you send the news.

Yes. Every pose is led by your baby's comfort and nothing is forced. A parent stays close for any position that needs support, and the session pauses for feeds and changes whenever needed. Warm the room before Kaushik arrives, because a newborn feels the cold far more than an adult does.

Yes. Southall is about 6.5 miles from Northwood, and a session at home can include parents, older children and grandparents. The baby's own pictures are usually taken while they sleep, and the family groups come at the end, when everyone is ready and dressed.

It will. A newborn session needs very little floor space: a bed or sofa near a window and room for one person to move around it. Kensington and Chelsea is about 11 miles from Northwood, and travel from Northwood is quoted in writing alongside the session price.

Prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, because they depend on the session and the prints or album you would like. Ask at the same time about a maternity and newborn package if you have not had bump portraits taken yet.

That is expected. The date is only fixed once your baby is born, so an early or late arrival simply moves it. If your baby needs extra time in hospital, the session happens later, and a baby of three or four weeks still photographs beautifully.

Yes, if that suits you better. The Northwood studio is two minutes' walk from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line, and it is kept warm and calm for babies. In the first fortnight, though, staying at home is usually the easier choice for a recovering parent.
