We certainly do. A milestone session can mark sitting up unaided, first steps or a first birthday, and in fine weather we would suggest the walled garden at Ravenscourt Park. Spread across the first year, a few sessions build into a record of how quickly it all changed.

Pick two or three colours and keep the group inside them. Identical outfits photograph worse, not better. Bring a layer each, because the open bank beside the water is colder and noisier than the walks a few steps inland, and cold children stop cooperating first. Shoes that cope with a damp path help. Avoid fine stripes and small checks, which shimmer on camera.

They do not need to. We would rather turn the hour into a game, a race to the next tree or a hunt for the best stick, and photograph what happens along the way.
