The short answer
An award winning, London based wedding photographer, Kaushik Bathia has spent more than twenty five years photographing weddings in Canterbury and right across Kent. Our method is simple: we follow the day rather than direct it, so what you see later is how it actually felt, not a version we staged. Church, civil, country house, barn, marquee or hotel, and every faith, culture and fusion celebration, we are equally at home photographing them all in Canterbury. Having covered a thousand celebrations, we know where to stand for the confetti, the first dance and the speeches, so the key moments are never missed. Engagement shoots, a second photographer for busier days and beautiful fine art albums are all part of what we offer, and we travel throughout Kent and the rest of the UK for your wedding.
Serving Canterbury
Canterbury is a cathedral city with historic venues. There is real variety in where our couples marry, from register offices to grand houses and hotel ballrooms, and we photograph every one of them across Whitstable, Herne Bay and Faversham and the wider Kent. We keep to the edges during the ceremony, using quiet cameras and natural light so your officiant, your guests and your vows are never interrupted.
Small, telling details matter to us as much as the big set pieces, so we photograph the handwritten notes, the borrowed jewellery and the quiet glances between courses. Because we work by observing rather than instructing, the day stays yours from beginning to end, and the pictures simply remember it as it was. The whole day is covered as it comes, without rehearsed poses or long setups, so you are free to be present with your guests while we quietly work.
Whenever a wedding in Canterbury comes up, we are glad to say yes. Canterbury is a cathedral city with historic venues, and our coverage stretches out to Ashford, Gravesend and the towns in between. Canterbury and the towns around it offer venues such as Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, ABode Canterbury and The Old Kent Barn, all familiar to us.
Canterbury is a cathedral city whose cathedral, abbey and church form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Served by Canterbury West and Canterbury East stations, with high speed trains to London St Pancras. For pre-wedding and couple portraits, we love spots such as Westgate Gardens, riverside gardens on the Great Stour, and Dane John Gardens, with Canterbury Cathedral, seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, and St Augustine's Abbey close by for a striking backdrop.

What we offer
We photograph the day as it unfolds, watching for real moments rather than staging them, so your gallery feels honest.
A relaxed pre-wedding shoot lets us get to know each other and helps you feel at ease in front of the camera.
We stay from the morning preparations through to the evening, so the whole story is there in one set.
Every kind of wedding
We keep to the edges during the ceremony, using quiet cameras and natural light so your officiant, your guests and your vows are never interrupted. Some couples marry quietly with a handful of witnesses and others before a full congregation, and we adapt our approach so the coverage suits the scale of your ceremony. We watch for the unguarded moments during the service, the shaking hands, the mouthed words, the parent wiping an eye, and hold them without interrupting anything.
We photograph the speeches from more than one angle when a second photographer is with us, so you keep both the joke and the reaction to it. When the evening party begins and the lights come down, we adapt our approach, working in low light to keep the dancing alive and full of energy. We photograph the speeches, the toasts and the quiet reactions around the room, then stay through the first dance and into the evening celebrations.

The whole celebration
For weddings spread across more than one day, we plan the coverage in advance so each event, from the welcome dinner onwards, gets its proper place. We talk through the timeline with you well ahead, marking the light, the travel and the key moments so the early part of the day runs without a rush.
Some of the pictures you treasure most will be the small ones between events, so we stay present through the whole day and never switch off in the quiet stretches. A wedding has its own tempo, and we follow it, letting the quiet stretches breathe and being ready when the pace lifts again.
Why choose us
We carry backup cameras, spare lenses and duplicate memory cards to every wedding, so a single piece of kit failing never puts your pictures at risk. Steadiness under pressure is earned, not claimed, and a thousand weddings of practice is why we stay calm when a moment arrives only once.
From our London base we travel across Kent and beyond, and multi-venue days are never a problem; we plan the route and timings in advance. A day that moves between two or three venues asks for careful timing, and we sort the route and the schedule well before we leave for Whitstable, Herne Bay and Faversham.

Where we travel
When a day is spread out or the drive is a long one, a second photographer can travel with us so coverage across Kent stays unbroken. Long journeys and remote settings suit us well, and weddings across Whitstable, Herne Bay and Faversham and the further reaches of Kent are all within easy reach.

Good to know
Yes. Canterbury and the wider Kent area are well within our usual coverage, and we travel across the UK for weddings with no surprise travel cost added on. We like to discuss your venues and the route between them in advance, so the timings work and the day runs to plan.
With a little planning, the formal family photographs usually take around twenty to thirty minutes, leaving plenty of time for you to enjoy your guests. We suggest keeping the list to the groups that matter most, as very long lists eat into the celebration. We will guide everyone along warmly and keep things moving.
Popular dates, especially summer Saturdays, tend to go twelve to eighteen months ahead, so earlier is safer. That said, it is always worth asking about shorter notice, as we sometimes have gaps around Canterbury. Once you are fairly sure of your date, a quick message to check availability costs nothing and saves disappointment later.
You are free to print, share and post your images for personal use as much as you like, with no per-print fees. We simply ask that photos are not sold commercially or edited beyond recognition, and that we are credited if you share them publicly. We keep the copyright, which lets us show a few images in our portfolio.
Yes, and we recommend them. A relaxed pre-wedding shoot lets us get to know each other, helps you feel comfortable in front of the camera and often calms any nerves about the wedding day itself. You also come away with lovely images you can use for save-the-dates or a guest sign-in book.
Yes. Where a moment suits it, we prepare a considered black and white version alongside the colour edit, usually for strong light, emotion or reportage frames. You are not charged extra for this. The full gallery is delivered in colour, with black and white used where it genuinely adds something.
We design the first draft for you, choosing and sequencing images so the album flows as a story rather than a random set of photos. You then review the proof and request changes until it feels right. Nothing is printed until you have approved the final design, so you stay in control of the outcome.
