Canterbury is a cathedral city with historic venues. The banqueting halls, mandaps and places of worship of Whitstable, Herne Bay and Faversham are familiar ground, and we know how each one handles light and space. We know the order of the rituals in each tradition, so we are always in position.

We are at ease with large, multi-day celebrations and intimate ceremonies alike. A second photographer means we can be at the mandap and with the guests at once, so the reactions in the room are held alongside the ritual at the front. The reception is its own event, so we cover the speeches, the entrance and the dancing with the same care we brought to the morning rituals.

For portraits away from the celebration, Westgate Gardens, riverside gardens on the Great Stour, and Dane John Gardens works beautifully, and Canterbury Cathedral, seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, and St Augustine's Abbey adds a real sense of place.

As the sindoor is applied and the mangalsutra tied, a Hindu marriage is complete, and we are ready for both of those small, fast gestures. For Tamil and South Indian families, the muhurtham reaches its heart as the thali is tied, and we are in position for that single, defining second. The vows at a nikah end in the joyful declaration that the couple are married, and the room's relief and delight are ours to keep.

From the first event to the last, we tell the full story of the celebration. For Gujarati families the garba and raas fill an evening with circling colour and movement, and we love following the dandiya sticks and the swirling skirts. For Muslim families the walima is a warm celebration in its own right, and we cover it in full.
