In a city the size of Bradford, relatives may be spread from the centre out towards Saltaire, Thornton and Baildon, so preparations could run in three houses at once and the drive between them becomes a real variable.
The gaps therefore get planned first: which house we open in, who covers the other side, and what a move genuinely costs once a long convoy is following you. Main roads move freely right up until the hour when they do not. Everything else follows a shape rehearsed across generations, and much of it photographs itself provided somebody stood in the correct place beforehand and stayed there.

Yes. Purpose-built rooms give height and space to work with and almost no daylight, so lighting arrives with us and gets rigged before guests do. Access early enough for that is the single thing being asked of the hall.
That is the entire method. We use long glass, no flash unless it has been cleared and no directing, so nobody is obliged to look past us. Discretion through the ritual is precisely what buys the freedom to work closely later on.
