Confirm the gurdwara's registration
If the gurdwara is not registered for marriages, add a civil ceremony at Bradford City Hall or Huddersfield Town Hall to your plans.

The baraat, the milni at the gurdwara door, the four laavan and a reception that can run past midnight. Kaushik photographs Sikh weddings in Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and across West Yorkshire with care for gurdwara etiquette.
The short answer
Kaushik Bathia photographs Sikh weddings across West Yorkshire, including the jaggo, milni, anand karaj, langar, reception and doli. He follows each gurdwara's guidance on where to stand. Leeds is about 159 miles from his Northwood studio and Bradford about 162, so travel and any overnight stay are set out in writing before you book. Coverage starts from £750.
Would 100% recommend Kaushik Bathia Photography! Kaushik and his team photographed all my wedding functions and I couldn't be happier with the results. He listened to us, got to know our family and close one's and captured all the special moments. We had a great mixture of romantic portraits and natural candid photos of the ceremony. Thank you so much for the most beautiful, treasured wedding photos!
…Kaushik has an incredible eye for detail and an exceptional talent for capturing those fleeting, candid moments that made our wedding so unique. The photos are absolutely stunning—full of emotion, vibrancy, and creativity. He didn’t just take photographs; he told the story of our wedding day in the most heartfelt and artistic way possible.
"Kaushik is brilliant photographer and provides a great service, would highly recommend"
Three cities on one morning
An anand karaj in West Yorkshire can mean an early start. The gurdwara may be in Leeds, Bradford or Huddersfield, with the family homes and the reception venue spread across the county. The M62 runs about two and a half miles north of Huddersfield, linking it at junctions 23 to 25, and Leeds and Bradford sit close together further north.
Kaushik plans the morning from two times: when the ceremony must begin and when the darbar hall must be cleared. Tell us both, with the gurdwara's name and address, and the baraat, milni and anand karaj are timed backwards from them.
If one family is Hindu or Muslim, read the West Yorkshire Asian weddings page for combined planning.

Etiquette
In the darbar hall Kaushik keeps his head covered and his shoes off, like the rest of the sangat. Your anand karaj may be in any of the three cities, and each gurdwara committee sets its own rules on where a photographer may stand, so ask in advance and share their guidance with us.
During the four laavan, the couple walks around the Guru Granth Sahib while the granthi reads and the ragis sing each verse. Close relatives often stand at the corners to steady them, and the faces of those relatives are some of the strongest photographs of the day.
Relatives arriving at Leeds station, which has 18 platforms, need time to cross the county to the gurdwara, so give them the start time early and everyone can be seated before the laavan begin. Our national Sikh weddings page walks through each part of the ceremony.
Before the wedding
The family events before the anand karaj are lively and close. At the maiyan, relatives rub vatna into the couple's hands and faces at home. The mehndi night brings henna and music, and the jaggo carries a decorated, lit pot through the house and sometimes out into the street, with singing and dancing late into the night.
On the wedding morning, the choora and kalire can be added at home before the family leaves for the gurdwara, and the sehra bandi takes place at the other house. A second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time, so neither house is missed.
Each of these events has its own line in the quote, so you can choose which ones are covered.

Registering the marriage
An anand karaj is a legal marriage only where the gurdwara is registered for marriages and an authorised person is present. Otherwise a civil ceremony completes the legal side. Bradford's register office is on the ground floor of City Hall, and for larger ceremonies the building offers the Banqueting Suite for up to 110 guests and the Council Chamber, which seats 100 in a tiered horseshoe under a vaulted ceiling.
In Kirklees, ceremonies take place in a Victorian-style room at Huddersfield Town Hall for 30 guests plus the couple, and the Town Halls team has larger rooms for 30 to 200. Dewsbury Town Hall has a similar room, used by appointment.
A civil ceremony can be added as a short separate booking, before the wedding weekend or on it.
Portraits
After the langar and before the reception, a short portrait session gives the couple time away from the crowd. Greenhead Park, half a mile west of Huddersfield town centre, opened in 1884, is Grade II listed and was restored in a major project completed in 2012. Castle Hill at Almondbury, topped by the 106 ft Victoria Tower, whose top reaches 1,000 feet above sea level.
In Bradford, Lister Park has a boating lake, a botanical garden and Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, which opened in 1904 about a mile from the city centre. Beaumont Park in Huddersfield, opened in 1883 by Prince Leopold, is another option close to the town.
Castle Hill is exposed, so plan an indoor alternative in case of wind or rain.

Cost and travel
A Sikh wedding in Leeds, Bradford or Huddersfield is photographed from £750. Packages are built around your day, with the jaggo, anand karaj and reception each priced separately, and an optional second photographer and hand-finished album.
Travel from Northwood to West Yorkshire is set out in writing in your quote before you book. With a jaggo the night before an early gurdwara start, an overnight stay is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote. For guests, Bradford Interchange has Grand Central trains to London King's Cross, and Huddersfield station is on the TransPennine route.

Planning
If the gurdwara is not registered for marriages, add a civil ceremony at Bradford City Hall or Huddersfield Town Hall to your plans.
Bradford City Hall's Council Chamber seats 100 in a tiered horseshoe, which suits a civil ceremony with the wider family present.
Huddersfield joins the M62 at junctions 23, 24 and 25. Tell us which side of town each event is on, so the drive is realistic.
Castle Hill reaches 1,000 feet above sea level. Keep Greenhead Park as a sheltered fallback for portraits.
Each gurdwara has its own rules for photographers. Ask the committee and pass on what they say.

Castle Hill at Almondbury is a scheduled ancient monument topped by the Grade II listed Victoria Tower, opened in 1899. It works well in fair weather. Allow the drive from the reception and keep Greenhead Park in mind if it is windy.

Coverage starts from £750. A quote lists the events, such as the jaggo, anand karaj and reception, with the hours and any second photographer or album. The travel from Northwood is written into the quote too.
At around 160 miles from Northwood, an overnight stay before an early gurdwara ceremony is usually sensible and is set out in your written quote.
