Vows in a Sikh wedding are sung rather than spoken, and understanding that changes how the ceremony is covered, since the meaning lives in the ragis' verses and not in a moment of speech.
Choora mornings are emotional in the best way, and we photograph the milk, the bangles and the maternal family gathered close as the ceremony unfolds. The jago is unlike anything else, and we photograph the decorated pot carried on the head, the sticks banging on doors and the aunties dancing the night loud and late. When the baraat reaches the gurdwara gates, we photograph the dancing peaking, the family spilling out to receive it and the groom arriving to the loudest welcome of his life.

Mehndi from the night before is checked, admired and photographed properly in daylight, when the colour has darkened and the patterns finally look the way the artist intended them to. Choora ceremonies frequently begin in the dark, and we plan for that, arriving with everything set for low light so the milk, the bangles and the blessings are recorded without a single flash.
