The Decorium opened on 10 August 1911 as the Western Road public swimming baths. The pool was never removed. In the venue's own words, "the former swimming pool now quietly resides beneath the regal expanse of the Emperor Suite". Your first dance happens above an Edwardian bath.
It is now a dry hire banqueting venue in Wood Green, N22, licensed for civil ceremonies and hosting one event a day. We are an Asian wedding studio in Northwood, HA6, and we are glad to photograph at The Decorium. Here is what we have verified, and what to ask the venue.

One event a day, true dry hire, and no naked flame
The Decorium is a true dry hire. The 2026 Welcome Pack states: "We do not offer in-house caterers or decorators as we believe in providing you the freedom to choose the professionals that best suit your preferences." For an Asian wedding that usually helps: your own caterer, decor team and priest. A professional kitchen is available, and tables and chairs are included.
The venue hosts "only one event a day", so no other booking turns around your setup. Both suites sit on Haringey Council's approved list, and the venue is licensed for civil marriages and alcohol.
- No flammable items. Fireworks, smoke bombs, sparklers and "any flammable items" are not permitted. The venue says it welcomes professional alternatives.
- Havan or agni: unresolved. The venue's own 2026 Welcome Pack bans flammable items. A third-party Asian wedding directory claims a havan is allowed. The two conflict; we will not take a side. Get a written answer before you pay a deposit.
- Mandaps. No published source on whether they are permitted, or on size and rigging limits. Ask.
- Baraat, dhol, corkage. Nothing published on procession space or outdoor music, and Western Road is urban and near a police station. The venue holds an alcohol licence, but the no-corkage claim comes only from directories.
The Emperor Suite, the elliptical staircases, and five supplier spaces
Planning notes, from what the venue publishes:
- The Foyer, 20.8m x 13.9m, has elliptical staircases and a crystal chandelier. The venue calls it "a picturesque backdrop for wedding photos", so that is where we would plan portraits and groups.
- Light differs by room. The Caesar Suite is bathed in natural daylight. The Emperor Suite lists dimmable crystal chandeliers and professional lighting, but no daylight, so we would plan to light it ourselves.
- Only five on-site spaces are set aside for suppliers. Between photographer, videographer, caterer, decorator and DJ that does not stretch, so we agree the parking plan in advance and arrive early.
- The Anthony and Cleopatra suites adjoin the Emperor Suite for preparation or as a retreat, so getting-ready coverage stays in one building.
- No sparklers, so no sparkler exit. Plan a closing shot another way.
- Accessibility is unpublished. The Emperor Suite is reached from a Foyer containing staircases and no lift is mentioned. Ask.
A 1911 swimming baths with the pool still under the floor
The building opened on 10 August 1911 as the Western Road public swimming baths. The design was chosen by competition, won by the architect Harold Burgess and built by the contractor W. E. Davey. The pool stayed put: the venue says "the former swimming pool now quietly resides beneath the regal expanse of the Emperor Suite". Above it: neo-classical columns, a sculpted ceiling, 5,500 sq ft of floor.
Wood Green, and why parking is the first thing to solve
The nearest station is Wood Green on the Piccadilly line, within short walking distance per the venue's 2026 Welcome Pack.
Parking is the constraint. There are 20 complimentary on-site spaces: 15 guest permits and 5 for suppliers. Permits are posted by recorded delivery to the booker to hand out, and number plates must be registered on a tablet in the Foyer. A further 100 spaces are secured at The Mall West car park, Level 5, via Caxton Road N22 6TB, free until midnight on the event day, though independently managed. Unauthorised overnight parking costs £250. Street parking nearby risks towing; a police station is close.
