Windsor is a historic royal town best known as the home of Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world and an official residence of the British monarch. Windsor has two stations, Windsor and Eton Riverside with direct trains from London Waterloo, and Windsor and Eton Central linking to Slough on the Great Western line. For portraits away from the celebration, The Long Walk and Windsor Great Park works beautifully, and Windsor Castle adds a real sense of place.

Knowing the order of your day

We learn the sequence of your particular ceremony beforehand, so whether it is Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Gujarati or Tamil, we anticipate each ritual rather than chase it. At a Sikh wedding the exchange of garlands and the palla placed in the couple's hands begin the Anand Karaj, and we follow from the very first hymn. At a Muslim nikah we photograph the vows, the mehr and the joyful moment the couple are declared married.

The mehndi or henna night is intimate and detailed, and we photograph both the henna and the laughter around it. Each pre-wedding event carries its own mood, the intimacy of the mehndi, the play of the haldi, the exuberance of the sangeet, and we photograph all three in their own key. Preparations hold a quiet anticipation of their own, and we photograph the jewellery, the tying of the turban and the last still moments before the day begins.
