We photograph Asian weddings across Berkshire, including Thatcham, Hungerford and Reading, at temples, gurdwaras, mosques, mandaps and banqueting halls. In the gurdwara, the couple circle the Guru Granth Sahib through the four laavan, and we follow that slow procession with the reverence the moment asks for.

We are a reassuring, familiar presence, so everyone relaxes and the day flows naturally. A second photographer means we can be at the mandap and with the guests at once, so the reactions in the room are held alongside the ritual at the front. We work discreetly around the priest, the granthi or the imam, never intruding on a sacred moment.

We keep our distance during the most solemn moments and step in only for the joyful ones. When the couple rise as husband and wife and turn to their families, we are already facing them, ready for the smiles that follow the solemnity. At a Muslim wedding, the nikah and the signing of the contract carry great dignity, and we cover them with respect.

The pre-wedding events are often where the most natural photographs come from, and we give them full attention. Preparations hold a quiet anticipation of their own, and we photograph the jewellery, the tying of the turban and the last still moments before the day begins. We are glad to cover a single event or the whole multi-day celebration.
