From the mandap to the gurdwara and the nikah

The vows at a nikah end in the joyful declaration that the couple are married, and the room's relief and delight are ours to keep. We photograph the seven steps of the saptapadi and the couple's first steps as a married pair. For Tamil and South Indian families, the muhurtham and the tying of the thali are the sacred centre of the ceremony.

At the milni the two families meet and embrace, garlands are exchanged and the elders greet one another, and we record the warmth of that first joining. The farewell, when the bride leaves her family, is the most tender moment of many Asian weddings. The pre-wedding events are often where the most natural photographs come from, and we give them full attention.
