Asian Wedding Photography Rooted in Basingstoke

An Asian wedding is not one long day. It is four or five distinct ones with a guest list in common, each holding its own room, its own hour and its own noise level. What catches couples out is never the ceremonies, which get planned minutely by relatives who have organised several already. It is the stretch afterwards, once everybody has scattered and the schedule has quietly stopped.

Those gaps are where portraits either happen or do not. Booked deliberately, one of them becomes the calmest half hour of your week. Left alone it turns into a lobby, three phone calls and a change into the next outfit, while the hours you are paying for run down on nothing. When a schedule reaches us, mark the empty parts as well. Working out which of them repay the effort is our job.

Family & Elders

Every tradition

From the mandap to the gurdwara and the nikah

Families want completely different days from us, and that is rather the point. One couple's Saturday turns on the pheras, indoors, under a mandap. Another spends its morning on the floor of a darbar hall where four laavan get photographed from a single fixed spot and nothing about that is negotiable. For a third couple it is a nikah-nama, two witnesses and a handful of minutes while half the room carries on talking. Not one of those is a variant of the others, and not one is covered the same way.

The shape around them is what they share. Loud dark evenings beforehand, a mehndi, perhaps a sangeet, set by hand rather than surrendered to autofocus. A reception after, which is a room somebody must light properly or it photographs brown. And movement between addresses, the real consumer of hours. Each change of venue buys you a departure and an arrival, both needing somebody present, so they belong on a schedule as events instead of gaps.

Why choose us

Why Couples Across Hampshire Trust Us With Their Wedding

Twenty-five years spent on these days leaves you knowing what comes next before it arrives. Less impressive than it sounds and considerably more useful, since a lens already points the correct way instead of turning towards the noise. Hampshire couples get the team who cover the London dates, never a substitute.

Good to know

Asian weddings in Basingstoke, FAQs

A small preview comes back quickly, inside a fortnight. The rest follows once each day of the wedding has been colour corrected separately, since an evening mehndi and a bright morning need different treatment. Your contract names the delivery date.

Yes. A South Indian ceremony keeps a different clock from a northern one, and the moment worth framing is frequently the thali rather than a garland. Send us your family's order of service and we work from that, not an assumption.

Documentary through most of it, with a short directed block of portraits and groups, because families want those afterwards. Nothing is re-enacted for a camera, and we will not ask you to repeat an entrance for a second go.

Because the rituals are the part we genuinely know. Knowing what follows what is what puts a lens in the right spot beforehand, and a generalist cannot improvise that on the day however good they are technically.

Absolutely. The mehndi, the haldi or pithi and the sangeet are often where the warmest, most natural moments occur, and we are delighted to cover them as part of your wedding. Many families ask us to follow the whole celebration from the very first event to the very last. Landmarks we can work with near Basingstoke include The Vyne, a Tudor country house and National Trust property near the town.
