Capturing Asian Weddings in Aldershot and Hampshire

Aldershot is a Hampshire garrison town with a Nepalese and South Asian community. Whether your ceremony is in a temple, a gurdwara or a hotel ballroom, we are comfortable photographing right across Farnborough, Ash and Fleet and beyond. From the kanyadaan to the saptapadi, or the first laav to the last, the ceremony tells its own story and we follow it.

The mehndi and sangeet are where families let go, so we shoot loose and candid there, catching the laughter, the songs and the henna drying on open hands. We move quietly through the day, capturing the real moments rather than staging them. We photograph the elders and the children as closely as the couple, because a wedding is the whole family gathered, not just the two people at the centre.

We travel throughout Hampshire for temple, gurdwara and mosque ceremonies, and Aldershot, a Hampshire garrison town with a Nepalese and South Asian community, is one we know well. We also photograph in nearby Southampton and Portsmouth. We are at home at Aldershot-area venues such as Northbrook Park and Froyle Park.

Aldershot is a Hampshire garrison town known as the Home of the British Army with a large Nepalese Gurkha community. Aldershot railway station is served by South Western Railway on lines towards Guildford and Ascot. For pre-wedding and couple portraits, we love spots such as Manor Park, a landscaped park with lakes and gardens close to the town centre, with The Wellington Statue, a large equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington on Round Hill close by for a striking backdrop.

Respecting the Temple, the Gurdwara and the Mosque

At a Gujarati mandap we know the hastamelap and the four mangal pheras, and we photograph them in the order your priest keeps rather than a generic script. The garland exchange, when the couple meet with the jaimala, is a moment of pure joy we love to photograph. At the gurdwara, the couple's walk around the Guru Granth Sahib during each laav is captured with reverence.

At the milni the two families meet and embrace, garlands are exchanged and the elders greet one another, and we record the warmth of that first joining. A sangeet belongs to the family, all rehearsed dances and gentle teasing, and we keep pace with its energy late into the night. The dhol player sets the pulse of the baraat, and we work close to the drum and the dancers so the picture carries the sound within it.
