The nikah, minute by minute
A nikah is capable of finishing before an unready photographer has crossed the room. Ten minutes is common and sometimes fewer, with no second circuit available to recover whatever got missed. Everything therefore hangs on holding the right spot before the imam opens, angle already chosen, nothing left to fiddle with once the khutbah begins. Rukhsati later carries the opposite risk, since it starts without warning and moves outdoors immediately.
Signing is a small technical problem of its own. Papers sit flat on a table, faces sit well above them, relatives press in from three sides, and a frame carrying both the pen and the expression has to be taken across somebody's shoulder. The walima then inverts the difficulty: a stage washed in colour for the benefit of the room, which does skin no favours until something neutral of ours goes in beside it. Guests read that stage as the picture; it is only the backdrop.
