Documenting Asian weddings in Birmingham
Multi day coverage comes apart around the events, never inside them. Anything ceremonial has a running order, someone leading it and someone watching the clock. The gaps have none of that. A morning in a house in Moseley or Kings Heath, cars being loaded, forty relatives filling a hallway while the bride sits upstairs with the curtains drawn: that is where the week is actually won or lost, and nobody has scripted any of it.
This city spreads out, and a family's week seldom stays inside one postcode. Relatives come off a train at New Street or arrive by motorway with luggage and no schedule, and by the third evening nobody remembers who agreed to drive whom. Tell us early which building holds which night, and where your own attention will be. A running order gets built from that, never from the invitation.

The Sacred Fire and the Circling of the Pheras
Who holds ceremonial authority changes from one household to the next. It can rest with a priest working a fixed sequence beside a fire he tends himself. It can belong to an institution whose hall nobody is going to rearrange for a camera. It can be a scholar at a table with a document and two witnesses. Our opening question is therefore not about ritual at all, but about who in that room is entitled to tell us to stop.
What we want alongside it is a list of everything happening before the main date. A sangeet rehearsed in a hired room asks for different coverage from an evening at somebody's house. The morning itself is where cover most often thins, because the timetable has already slipped and a photographer is queuing behind the make up artist. Build in slack there and the pictures from that hour stop looking rushed and stop looking alike.

Why choose us
The Experience Behind Every Frame We Deliver
Long practice mainly buys anticipation. We are not working out what comes next while it happens, so the camera is up beforehand rather than a second late. Everything else, the bodies and the lenses, is the easy part. We drive to Birmingham for every date in the sequence and treat each one as a separate booking.

Your photographer is Kaushik Bathia, a fellow of both the BIPP and the MPA, with five European Gold awards and more than a thousand weddings behind him since 2001.

Asian weddings in Birmingham, FAQs
Yes, and the practical half of that is working out which family owns which hour. Two sets of expectations seldom clash outright, but they do need writing down beforehand. We put the same questions to both sides, separately.
Yes. It means knowing our position before anything begins, settling with whoever leads it when the shutter stops, and accepting that parts of it go unphotographed. Discretion is arranged in advance; it cannot be improvised halfway through.
Yes, and we take our position before the crowd forms, since a farewell fills a doorway with relatives within seconds. Once it has started we do not push through people to improve an angle. Nobody should be asked to move.
Editing takes weeks, and we tell you how many at the outset so nothing goes quiet. The full set reaches you first, you choose from it, and the album conversation happens afterwards rather than while you are still away.
Absolutely. Colour, tone and consistency across your days are set by hand on every delivered frame, and we retouch our chosen portraits softly and naturally. Because we want photographs that feel timeless instead of heavily edited, they hold up beautifully as your album ages. In and around Birmingham that includes Al Miraj Banqueting Suite and Grand Occasions Banqueting Hall.
