The short answer
At our studio on The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU, on the parade beside Northwood Hills station. If you live in Northwood you can push the pram down, walk in without booking and usually leave with printed photos and the online code a few minutes later. We lay a small baby on a plain pale sheet, wait for a calm moment with the eyes open, and check the frame against the passport rules on screen before printing it, so the application is not sent back because of the picture.
Had been to this studio for some passport photos. Amazing picture quality and very professional service. Highly recommended.
Excellent pictures and service. Highly recommend I come to see Kaushik for all my passport and family photos. He is an absolute magician I can’t trust anyone else with my passport picture. He knows exactly what to do to make me look a million dollars lol.
I have had photos done at Kaushik Bathia Photography on many occasions whenever I have needed passports size photos of my kids. Mr Bhatia is very patient and professional with young kids and he takes his time to make sure they are relaxed and enjoying the process. His photos are very good quality and my first choice compared to other places I have had photos done. I would highly recommend.
Local and quick
A baby's mood decides when a passport photo can be taken, which is why a counter you can reach in a few minutes helps. Come when your baby has just fed or woken from a nap; if the timing turns out wrong, you can go home and try again later the same day without losing a booking slot.
Brothers and sisters travelling on the same trip can have theirs done in the same visit, and we will tell you if any of the family's existing passport photos are close to being too old to use.
Getting it right
For a baby under one, the passport office accepts a photo with the eyes not fully open and does not require a neutral expression, but the head must be clear of hands, toys and dummies, and the background must stay plain. We position the sheet so no shadow falls behind the head and no part of a parent's hand shows in the frame.
Each photo is measured to 35mm by 45mm and must be taken within the month before you apply. If you are applying online, you leave with a printed copy and the code you type into the form, so you do not need to upload a picture from your phone.
Finding us in Northwood
The studio sits in the run of shops on Joel Street that was built beside Northwood Hills station, so from most of Northwood Hills it is a short walk with the pram. From the older part of Northwood around Green Lane, Northwood station is one stop away on the Metropolitan line, and bus routes 282, 331 and H11 serve both Northwood and Northwood Hills.
If you are driving with a car seat, there is parking close by the parade. Families who spend the afternoon at Northwood Recreation Ground on Chestnut Avenue are only a few minutes away by car, which makes it easy to fit the photo around a trip to the playground.
Who it is for
New parents applying for a baby's first UK passport, often within weeks of the birth.
Children's passports run out sooner than adults', so toddlers come back for a fresh photo before the next trip.
Families who would rather walk round the corner than wait in for a home photo that may be rejected.
Take home
A sheet of passport photos, printed on the spot.
The code for an online application, so there is nothing to upload yourself.
A photo that has already been checked for size, background and head position.
Practical details
Good to know
Yes. Our studio on Joel Street, next to Northwood Hills station, takes baby and child passport photos on a walk-in basis every day of the week.
Yes. Come in with the pram or car seat as you are; your baby is settled on the plain sheet for the photo and back in the seat straight afterwards.
We take our time and wait for a calm moment. If it is not happening, you live close enough to come back after the next feed or nap.
For babies under one the rules are more relaxed about the eyes and expression, but we still aim for an alert, clear face so the photo is beyond doubt.
Prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, or ask at the counter when you come in.
Behind the camera is Kaushik Bathia, established in Northwood since 2001, FBIPP and FMPA, with five European Kodak Gold Awards.
