Warwick Castle is a medieval fortress on the banks of the River Avon, run today by Merlin Entertainments. It holds one wedding per day. Because the castle is a visitor attraction first, your wedding starts when the castle closes to the public, usually at 4pm or 5pm, and the Great Hall and State Rooms are then yours until midnight (wedding brochure 2026). The Great Hall takes 120 for a ceremony or a seated meal and 180 in the evening.

Our studio is at 21 Joel St, Northwood Hills HA6 1NU, photographing weddings since 2001 and rated 4.8 out of 5 from 580+ Google reviews. The castle does not limit couples to its recommended supplier list, and we are glad to photograph at Warwick Castle. Coverage starts from £750. Warwick is a long drive from Northwood, so travel and any overnight stay are set out in the written quote before you book. Below is what the castle publishes, and what it does not.

What a Warwick Castle wedding costs, 2026 to 2029

The castle publishes venue hire and catering separately, both including VAT. Venue hire covers exclusive use of the Great Hall and State Rooms from castle closing time to midnight, use of the Conservatory or Central Courtyard for outdoor drinks, access to the grounds and gardens for photographs, a Master of Ceremonies, room set-up with standard linen and chair covers, a sword for the cake and the bar through the evening.

Late availability, 2026 and 2027 (booked within one year of the date, with 20% off venue hire already applied) (late availability price list):

  • Monday to Thursday: off peak £7,200, peak £8,800, Christmas £8,000.
  • Friday and Sunday: off peak £8,800, peak £10,800, Christmas £10,000.
  • Saturday: off peak £10,000, peak £12,800, Christmas £10,800.

2028 and 2029 (price list 2028 to 2029):

  • Monday to Thursday: off peak £9,000, peak £11,000, Christmas £10,000.
  • Friday and Sunday: off peak £11,000, peak £13,500, Christmas £12,500.
  • Saturday: off peak £12,500, peak £16,000, Christmas £13,500.

Off peak is January to May plus October and November; peak is June to September; Christmas is December. Weddings of under 50 guests carry a minimum bar spend of £300, usable as a non-refundable bar tab.

Food and drink is added per head. The Lancaster package (two glasses of Prosecco, Pimm's or bottled beer with four canapés, a three-course formal or medieval-style menu, half a bottle of house wine and a Prosecco toast) is listed at £90 per adult aged 12 and over. The York package (champagne or a cocktail, upgraded wine and a champagne toast) is £100 per adult. Children aged 4 to 11 are £45 or £50 and infants eating are £20. The castle says packages can be tailored and offers alcohol-free and fully medieval options. A Micro Wedding package for up to 20 guests in the State Rooms is mentioned on the weddings page, but its price is not published, so ask.

Dates can be held provisionally for up to four weeks before a deposit is needed. The deposit amount and payment schedule are not published.

Ceremonies in the Great Hall, the State Dining Room or the Library

The castle is licensed with Warwickshire County Council, and the brochure directs questions about ceremonies and giving notice to the Warwick register office at warwickro@warwickshire.gov.uk (brochure FAQ). Four rooms are licensed: the Great Hall (120), the State Dining Room under its chandelier (95), the Green Drawing Room (80) and the Library. The Library figure differs between the castle's own pages: 20 in the brochure, 30 on the weddings page, and "less than 30" in the virtual tour guidance. Confirm the number for your licence.

You can also marry elsewhere, for example at a local church, and come to the castle for the reception: the brochure says guests can then arrive at closing time and go straight into the drinks reception. For an on-site ceremony, day guests should arrive half an hour before so they can be seated.

The castle's in-house team caters most weddings and says it can be flexible about requirements. Whether outside caterers are allowed is not stated outright, and corkage is charged on your own drinks. Warwick Castle does not publish anything about Hindu, Sikh or Muslim ceremonies (a mandap, a havan or a nikah), a baraat, or halal, vegetarian or Jain menus. Ask the weddings team in writing about each one before you commit.

Biodegradable confetti, no drones: the castle's rules

The castle has no published photography policy for weddings. Two things are clear: the brochure invites couples to bring their photographer into the Tower Suite for preparation, and the castle's security information lists drones as a prohibited item.

Photography during the ceremonyNot published; the registrar sets the rules for a civil ceremony, so ask the Warwick register office
Own photographerAllowed: the castle has a recommended supplier list but does not limit couples to it
FlashNot published
DronesListed as a prohibited item on the castle's security information page
ConfettiPermitted if biodegradable; dried rose petals suggested
FireworksFireworks and smoke bombs are prohibited items; the brochure mentions sparklers in the Central Courtyard
Supplier accessSuppliers may come on site before the castle opens on the wedding day; storage is limited, so drop items off the day before
Finish timeExclusive use to midnight; evening extensions are mentioned but not priced

Where a rule is shown as not published, ask the venue in writing before the day.

Getting ready in Caesar's Tower

The brochure names the preparation space: one of two Tower Suites inside Caesar's Tower. You check in during the afternoon with your party, hairdresser and makeup artist, and can invite your photographer in for preparation pictures (brochure). The virtual tour guidance adds that you may get ready there from early afternoon if you have booked the night. The suites are the Rose Suite and the Peacock Suite, each on its own floor, with vaulted ceilings, four-poster beds and tapestries (Tower Suites page).

With only two suites, a second getting-ready room for the other half of the couple is not guaranteed. The Knight's Village lodges (sleeping 5, or 7 in the larger Knight's Lodges) and the 60-room Warwick Castle Hotel are the other on-site options, and wedding guests get 10% off bed and breakfast. Because the castle is open to visitors until closing time, plan how you move from the tower to the ceremony room with the weddings team.

Planning photographs in the State Rooms, the courtyard and the Peacock Garden

  • The Minstrels' Gallery looks down into the Great Hall through gaps in the wall; the virtual tour guidance calls it "a very special spot for your photographer". It is the place for an overhead view of the ceremony or the first dance.
  • In the Great Hall, two knights on horseback flank the Kenilworth Buffet behind the top table, and the central of three large windows is where the cake usually stands. The left-hand window is used for the DJ or band.
  • The State Dining Room is gold and white under a large chandelier, and becomes the bar in the evening.
  • The Blue Boudoir and the Armoury Passageway are named by the castle as good spots for indoor photographs, useful in rain.
  • The Central Courtyard is enclosed by towers and ramparts, with the Barbican clock tower between Caesar's Tower and Guy's Tower. The brochure suggests it for sparklers at the end of the night.
  • The Peacock Garden, home to the castle's peacocks and the Conservatory Tea House, has views over the Pageant Field to the River Avon (brochure). It is the obvious outdoor portrait setting in summer.
  • Your wedding starts at closing time, so in winter much of the day falls after sunset. Check the light table and plan outdoor portraits for the first hour.
  • The Great Hall and State Rooms are reached by a wheelchair lift; the chapel entrance has five steps and part of the Armoury Passageway is very narrow (accessibility information). Plan where older guests stand for group pictures.

From a 1068 motte to the State Rooms

The castle's history page traces the site to 1068, when William the Conqueror ordered a wooden motte and bailey castle; the Mound on the East Front is the oldest surviving part (grounds and gardens). Thomas Beauchamp began the towers that still stand in the 14th century, and Richard, Duke of Gloucester, commissioned Bear and Clarence Towers. Robert Greville remodelled the state apartments to their current design between 1658 and 1677, and a fire in 1871 burned through the private apartments and the Great Hall. Francis Greville commissioned Lancelot 'Capability' Brown to landscape the grounds. The Tussauds Group bought the castle in 1978 and became part of Merlin Entertainments in 2007.

Warwick station, the M40 and the castle car parks

Warwick Castle, Castle Lane, Warwick CV34 4QU. The main Stratford Road car park is under two miles from junction 15 of the M40. Warwick station is about a mile away, a 15-minute walk, with direct trains to London Marylebone in about 1 hour 45 minutes and to Birmingham Snow Hill (parking and directions). Birmingham International Airport is about 40 minutes by car. We travel to Warwick Castle from our Northwood studio; travel and any overnight stay are set out in the written quote.

Parking at Warwick Castle for wedding guests

There are two car parks (parking and directions). Stratford Road (CV34 6AH) is the main one, at £7.50 for cars, with a field overflow when the tarmac is full; allow 10 to 20 minutes' walk uphill to the entrance. The Stables car park on Castle Lane (CV34 4QU) is next to the main entrance and costs £10, pay and display, covering parking to 5pm with extra charges after that. Coaches and minibuses of over 12 seats park free at Stratford Road only. Both car parks have EV charging. Warwick Castle wedding photography, frequently asked questions

How much does a Warwick Castle wedding cost?

Venue hire is published including VAT. On the 2026 and 2027 late availability list it runs from £7,200 for an off-peak Monday to Thursday to £12,800 for a peak Saturday (June to September). For 2028 and 2029 it runs from £9,000 to £16,000. Food and drink is added per head: the Lancaster package is £90 per adult and the York package £100, with lower child and infant prices. Weddings of under 50 guests have a £300 minimum bar spend.

How many guests can Warwick Castle hold for a wedding?

The Great Hall takes 120 for a ceremony and 120 for a seated meal, and 180 for an evening reception. The State Dining Room takes 95 for a ceremony and 40 for a meal, and the Green Drawing Room 80 for a ceremony. The Library is listed at 20 in the brochure and 30 on the weddings page. A Micro Wedding package covers up to 20 guests in the State Rooms.

What time do weddings at Warwick Castle start and finish?

Your wedding starts when the castle closes to the public, usually at 4pm or 5pm, and the wedding rooms are closed to visitors an hour earlier for set-up. Exclusive use of the Great Hall and State Rooms runs to midnight. The castle usually suggests evening guests arrive between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, and says the evening can be extended, though the cost of an extension is not published.

Can you have confetti at Warwick Castle?

Yes, as long as it is biodegradable. The castle suggests dried rose petals. Fireworks and smoke bombs are on the prohibited items list, but the brochure mentions sparklers in the Central Courtyard at the end of the night, which makes the courtyard the natural place for a last picture.

Can we bring our own photographer to Warwick Castle?

Yes. The castle keeps a list of recommended suppliers approved to work on site but says it does not limit couples to that list. The brochure invites couples to have their photographer in the Tower Suite during preparation. Drones are listed as a prohibited item, and photography rules during a civil ceremony are set by the registrar.

Is Warwick Castle open to the public on our wedding day?

Yes, until closing time. The castle holds only one wedding a day, but other events may take place. Your rooms are closed to visitors an hour before closing so the team can set up, and from closing time the Great Hall and State Rooms are yours, along with the Central Courtyard if the weather allows.

Can we have an Asian wedding at Warwick Castle?

The castle does not publish anything about Hindu, Sikh or Muslim ceremonies, a baraat, or halal, vegetarian or Jain catering. Its in-house team caters most weddings and says it can be flexible, and packages can be tailored. Ask the weddings team in writing about religious ceremonies, outside caterers and timings before you book.

Where do wedding guests park at Warwick Castle?

The main Stratford Road car park (CV34 6AH) costs £7.50 and is a 10 to 20 minute walk uphill to the entrance. The Stables car park on Castle Lane (CV34 4QU) is next to the entrance and costs £10, covering parking to 5pm with extra charges after. Coaches park free at Stratford Road. Warwick station is about a 15-minute walk away.
