Three ceremonies, three heights to photograph from

Three weddings, three rooms, three different heights to work from. Where the important thing happens on a raised platform, you photograph upwards at it. Where it happens at floor level, you drop to the floor yourself and stay put. Where a table holds it, the whole event is the size of a sheet of paper and everything around it counts as decoration. Getting the height wrong is not a stylistic matter; it is a picture nobody gets.

Timing divides the same three ways. A nikah may be finished in minutes. A mandap has to be built before anybody can be photographed beneath it, and it goes up on somebody else's schedule. Other ceremonies run for hours and repeat themselves, which decides whether a photographer can afford to move at all. What the day hinges on is our opening question. Request a running order in return and it will have the gaps marked, since gaps are where days go wrong.

Their rules outrank ours. We put the questions to the committee rather than to you: what is permitted, from where, and with what. No flash unless it is offered, shoes and heads as instructed, and nothing of ours left standing in a walkway.
