Laavan are sung and never announced, all four of them, which makes listening faces every bit as valuable as the couple. The palla passes between them at chest height, and a pillar will swallow it if you have chosen badly, which is one more reason to fix a position before the ragis start.

Outdoors, the milni is a queue of embraces in whatever weather Crawley provides, and it runs quicker than the schedule allows for. Langar goes down low and is eaten in rows, which rules out standing over anybody. Nobody wants the doli directed, so we stay back and lengthen instead. A jago on one of the preceding nights is loud, coloured and handheld, and calls for a different bag entirely.
