Our eyes are always on the reactions, the parents watching, the friends laughing, because those unguarded moments are what you will want to look back on. Whatever your wedding looks like in Brighton, a church service, a register office, a country house, a barn or a hotel, and whatever your traditions, we photograph the whole day as it happens. Regency architecture and an inclusive culture make Brighton one of the more visually generous cities to work in, and The Lanes offer narrow layered streets where a couple can be photographed close without a crowd filling the background. The Royal Pavilion, the exotic Indo Saracenic palace built for the Prince Regent, both hosts weddings and provides the city's most distinctive exterior, and its domes need a low viewpoint if they are to read properly. Preston Park, the largest park in the city with lawns, a walled rock garden and mature trees, is where a bigger group becomes easier to handle. Harbour Hotel Brighton and Hotel du Vin Brighton sit within the centre. Fast trains run on the Brighton Main Line to London Victoria and London Bridge, and Kemptown, Portslade and Rottingdean take the overflow of guests.

Couples underestimate how much registrars differ. A few stand aside and let you work from anywhere in the room. Others fix a line nobody may cross and ask for no pictures during the vows themselves. Both are perfectly normal and neither shifts once the day starts, so we establish which you have while the rehearsal is still ahead and carry two plans. The legally binding stretch is brief either way; the day wrapped around it is not.
Scale changes method, never care. Twelve people in a small room is really a portrait session with a ceremony attached, and it can be done gently, at conversational pace. Three hundred guests is a logistics exercise: the group list printed, somebody who knows the faces standing beside us calling names, the whole sequence done in fifteen minutes on ground chosen the day before. Skip the list and those same pictures swallow an hour.

Luck is what you fall back on when nothing was planned. Arriving already aware of how the day runs, who is on the family group list and where the sun goes down relative to the building removes most of the need for it, and we bring lighting sufficient to keep working when the weather has other plans.
